Both Sulon Q and HoloLens introduce a self-contained and untethered VR experience, meaning users don't have to connect these devices to a mobile phone or a powerful PC. Other VR headsets, like Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Rift, require an external hardware to run.
Sulon Q
AMD and Sulon recently unveiled the Sulon Q headset, an upcoming VR device that looks to challenge innovations in technology. AMD claims the VR headset doesn't take away users from reality, but rather enhances it.
Sulon Q has "wear and play" self-contained design that makes it unique from other VR headsets. The Oculus Rift and SteamVR-powered HTC Vive both need a relatively high-end PC to project images on the headset. The AMD-powered Sulon has built-in processors and graphics card.
Tech Radar reported the device has an installed Windows 10 PC hardware, including a four-core AMD FX-8800P processor with a Radeon R7 graphics card. In addition, it is equipped with 256GB SSD, 8GB of RAM, and a 2560×1440 OLED display with a 110° field of view.
In essence, the users of Sulon Q have a headset sitting on the bridge of their nose with a full-on computer (built with laptop-sized components) strapped to the back of their skull.
Ars Technica said Solun Q could have a "late spring" launch. The price of the device has not yet disclosed. It is expected AMD and Solun will reveal more information at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2016. Watch the Solun Q announcement below:
Mircosoft HoloLens
Pre-orders for Microsoft's VR headset started on Feb. 29. The company will begin to ship the device on March 29. For interested buyers, the VR headset is available for $3,000.
HoloLen is compatible with Windows 10 and features three powerful processors: GPU, CPU and HPU. The latter is the Microsoft's Holographic Processing Unit. Also, the headset is equipped 2GB RAM, and 64GB of onboard solid-state storage
Interestingly, the images coming from the device are painted on the user's actual environment. In others words, the virtual world is blended to the real world. The VR headset boasts six ultra-clear cameras.
Aside from stunning visual elements, HoloLens boasts a terrific sound system. It has spatial sounds so users can hear holograms even when it is behind them. See the the device's features below.
