It has been over twenty years since former professional football player O.J. Simpson was convicted of killing his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. Those that remember this time saw the television footage of when O.J. attempted an escape, only to be chased on the freeways in his White Bronco by many police cars in a very slow chase. This led to his arrest and trial, as well as a lot of television footage about it. Naturally, it has come to television, and FX plans to show it all with a series known as The People V. O.J. Simpson, part of the American Crime Story anthology series, which will have a Season 2.
The series aired its pilot episode last night, and it is planned to air every week until April 5th. The titles for the first few episodes of the first season sound very familiar if you lived in that CNN Simpson era like "The Run of His Life" (episode 2, dealing with OJ when he attempted to flee arrest), "The Dream Team" (Episode 3, referring to Robert Shapiro and his counsel, as well as a reference to the 1992 Olympic US Basketball team), "100% Not Guilty" (Episode 4, referring to how O.J. entered his plea), " The Race Card" (Episode 5, a term that was growing in popularity in this case), and "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia" (Episode 6, a reference to Marcia Royer).
It sounds like a Season 2 is already planned, according to the imdb page. So far, the show is getting a 9.2 score, which is certainly enough to merit a season 2, but since the show is based on actual events, it doesn't make sense to draw out the story for another season. Fortunately, The Advocate reveals that this series is a part of an American Crime Story could be about Hurricane Katrina and its devastating aftermath.
So how is it holding up compared to the facts? USA Today reports that Kato Kaelin, who was a key figure in the O.J. Simpson trial, has debunked certain facts that were depicted on it. For example, the premiere episode shows a limo driver waiting on the curb, but Kato insists that the car was in the driveway. He also states that "an important part of my testimony included how O.J. told me not to touch a bag that I had tried to help load. A bag that, to this day, has never been found." Kato is worried that people might look at this TV series as a "factual" telling of the trial, especially in comparison to the original court transcripts.
