Do you own a Motorola smartphone and are looking forward to the Android 7.0 Nougat update for your device? If that is the case, then make sure that you are rocking to at least one of the following: the Moto Z, Moto Z Force, Moto Z Force Droid, Moto Z Play, Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus, Moto G4 Play, Moto X, Moto X Pure Edition (2015), Moto X Style, Moto X Play, Moto X Force, Motorola Droid Turbo 2, Motorola Droid Maxx 2 and Nexus 6. Those have been officially confirmed to obtain the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update in due time.

Out of the rather lengthy list that you saw above, the Moto Z and Moto G4 series would be the first ones to obtain the Android 7.0 Nougat update. However, if you did not invest in the higher end models, but rather settled for the likes of the mid-range Moto E (Gen 3) and Moto E3 Power smartphones which are far more budget-friendly, then it would be the end of the road for an official Android 7.0 Nougat update. Unless, of course, Motorola decides to change their mind and include other smartphones from their stable into the Nougat update list in the future.

These handsets are tipped to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update some time in the fourth quarter of this year, which would be anytime between now and December. So far, there has been no official word from Motorola just yet concerning the official Android 7.0 Nougat launch, so we will just have to rely on rumors. If the Q4 2016 release date were to be true, then it is certainly an improvement on Motorola’s part, taking into consideration how Android 7.0 Nougat was just released in August.

For those who have one of the listed Motorola smartphones above, you can prepare your device to receive the update by making sure that the existing firmware is current and up-to-date. This can be done by heading to Apps, selecting “Settings”, before tapping on “About phone”. Android 6.x Marshmallow should be shown there, and if it isn’t, then do make sure you bring your Lollipop-powered device to Marshmallow for a smoother transition.

For those who live in the US, there is Motorola’s software update page that can be referred to from time to time in order to obtain the official information as to whether your Motorola smartphone model and mobile carrier will be part of the update plans. A drop-down menu lets you select the carrier, followed by the phone model in an easy-to-use visual interface.

You should look out for this message: “This device will be upgraded to the Android 7 (Nougat) release, pending partner support.” That would be an official confirmation for the Android 7.0 Nougat update, and chances are this page will be updated in the weeks to come that should depict the actual Nougat update release date.

Those who reside outside of the US will have to fall back on Motorola’s international Android Software Upgrade page. From there, you can pick your country, select your mobile carrier (or settle for “Retail” if it is not listed), and then choose the smartphone model you are rocking to. Good luck!

The moment either Motorola or your mobile carrier mentions that the Android 7.0 Nougat update is available, go to “Apps” before selecting “Settings”. From there, tap on “About Phone” and choose “System updates” to see if there is a ready update to be downloaded. If so, then the on-screen instructions should be a no-brainer to follow and install afterwards.
