The Android 7.0 Nougat update has been released, and if you happen to own a Google device, take note. The Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Pixel C and Android One devices would be the ones ready to dance to the Android 7.0 Nougat tune. Google has already promised that the update is set to arrive in the coming weeks, so feel free to keep a keen eye out if you own at least one of the devices mentioned for notification of the Android 7.0 Nougat update being made available.
Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P face post-Nougat installation issues
It is not all a bed of roses though, as there have been some complaints about the new Android 7.0 Nougat update after installing it on the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. While it is nothing as serious as an exploding battery that plagues the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, there are issues nonetheless. One of the more notable ones would be the bootloop issue.
Other than airing their grievances online, many Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P users have scoured online message boards and forums to check out whether there are possible solutions that can be applied without having to wait for Google to issue a patch, but those proposed solutions failed to work. In fact, there is the case of Sameer Shahabudeen, a Nexus 5X user who actually reverted to factory settings in order to remedy the issue, but that led him to a dead end. Shahabudeen posted, "Wiped System Cache partition and did factory data reset. It turns off or restarts frequently with no consistent pattern. It does not even turn on most of the time when it's off."
Another irritating glitch with the Android 7.0 Nougat update after installation for numerous Nexus 5X users include random reboots happening, despite having cleared the cache and booting in safe mode, all to no avail. Other complaints include speakers that no longer work, a laggy user experience, the battery draining itself faster than normal, Bluetooth connectivity problems as well as app issues including Google Now and the Developer Preview.
Google has assured Nexus 5X owners that they are investigating the matter, and affected Nexus 5X owners have been recommended to contact the sellers of their device for repair and warranty services. There is no guarantee from Google that any future software update or patches from Google would resolve such issues, which makes for a pretty grim prognosis. This means the affected Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P owners will just have to fall back on the current exchange, refund or repair options that are available from the sellers.
Nexus 9, Pixel C and Android One devices
As for the Nexus 9 LTE, there does not seem to be such post-Nougat installation blues. While gaining access to the September security patch as opposed to the October version with the Android 7.0 Nougat update, it is still better than nothing. We do know that the October security patch for the Nexus 9 LTE will be accompanied in future updates, so there is no point in losing sleep over it. The Pixel C and Android One devices have also received the Nougat update, and either the user base is so small that nothing out of the ordinary has been reported, or the update runs just fine on both devices.
