Now that Google has released the Android 7.0 Nougat update in August, we are getting reports on which Samsung devices will be ready and waiting to obtain such an update. The Galaxy Note 7 is out of the equation of course, so where does that leave us? From what we do know, the confirmed devices from Samsung that will pick up the Android 7.0 Nougat update would be the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, the previous generation Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, as well as the Galaxy S6 Plus, not forgetting the non-combustible Galaxy Note 5, of course.

Such a major release would has been slated to happen in the fourth quarter of this year, which would mean any time from now until December 2016. Hence, you would do well to make sure that your respective mobile devices are well maintained and perform a back up of all your data just in case Murphy’s Law strikes during the update process, or something goes awry like Apple’s iOS 10.0.2 update.

Right now, we do know that Samsung is testing out their flagship Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S7 to run on the Android 7.0 Nougat update, since results on GFXBench have showcased a Samsung Galaxy S7 with Android N as the operating system of choice. Do bear in mind that such benchmarks do not translate to an imminent rollout of the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and Samsung Galaxy S7 though, as we are not quite sure as to how long Samsung is going to take with its testing.

Other than the smartphone manufacturer itself, another way of knowing whether your device is going to receive the latest operating system update would be to check with your mobile carrier. So far, T-Mobile has confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, Galaxy S6, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S7 will be on the receiving end of the Android 7.0 Nougat update -- although there was no concrete availability date provided.
If there are a couple of names that might seem to have been omitted, it would be the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note edge which frankly speaking, are not all that obsolete. It is said that devices which will make the cut for the update would need to be at most a couple of years old, although there is no hard and fast rule from Google about such a “rule”.

Of course, there are also whispers that Samsung has been testing out its Grace UX alongside Android 7.0 Nougat for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge through a benchmark reading result, but until there is an official rollout date for Android 7.0 Nougat for the mentioned Samsung devices, we will simply need to play the patience card.

It is not as though waiting until December is torture -- time flies by so fast these days, that you would probably notice that you have not yet run your Christmas present errands a couple of days before December 25th.
