The Nexus 6 is a handset that was released to the market slightly more than a couple of years ago -- November 2014, to be exact, and it has certainly fared pretty well over the years. Right now, you can consider it to be a decent mid-range smartphone that will be able to get the job done, where it has more than enough processing firepower to handle the everyday smartphone tasks without missing a beat, although you would certainly find it start to slow down if you were to use it to play the newer smartphone -only games with intensive graphics. Well, one thing that cannot be held against the Nexus 6 would be this -- the lack of mobile operating system updates. Since the Nexus 6 is a Google-branded device, you can be sure that it receives top priority each time there is a new operating system update or version released, and that has more or less held through since the Nexus 6’s debut. This time around, we have received word that the Nexus 6 will pick up the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update some time early next month.
Of course, you can consider it to have experienced a delay already where the Android 7.1.1. Nougat update is concerned when it comes to the Nexus 6. Apparently, this particular delay was attributed to a bug which was detected right at the eleventh hour when it was supposed to be released, and thankfully, the release was held back so that this particular bug can be squashed and fixed. Otherwise, the fallout would have been far less kind. We would like to think that a major disaster has been averted with this later release of the Nougat update, simply because a minor bug could be fixed later on, but a major one would definitely require urgent attention.
Thankfully, this particular last minute bug is specific only for the Nexus 6, which explains why some other Google-branded devices have already picked up the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update before it. Other juicier details concerning the bug has not been shared, although we are pretty sure that it has been fixed. Hence, Nexus 6 owners would do well to keep a keen eye out on an Over The Air (OTA) release of the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update in due time. Perhaps this particular update has not been released just yet because everyone involved is still on holiday.
Well, one thing is for sure -- the Android 7.1.1. Nougat update for the Nexus 6 might very well be the final one for the device, considering its age that would most probably mean it will miss the subsequent operating system updates. Well, it will still be on the receiving end of monthly security patches, and despite being later to the Android 7.1.1 Nougat game, it still carries the proud distinction of being one of the few smartphones in the market that actually has Nougat in one form or another running. Soon is the operative keyword, so keep a keen eye out if you are a Nexus 6 owner!
