Now that HTC has a new flagship phone with what is called the HTC 10, there has been a lot of news regarding the previous flagships receiving the upgrade to Android version 6.0, also known as Android M or Marshmallow. The issue is that the flagships are, for the most part, covered, but any other recent HTC phone, well...here is the latest news on Android M 6.0 Marshmallow Release Date for HTC One M9, One M8, and HTC Desire Series on Sprint, US Cellular, T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T.
I'm going to start by saying that if you have a recent HTC device, it is possible that it has access to Marshmallow already, especially if you have a flagship. Just go to "Settings" and "System Update" to see if you can download the Over the Air (OTA) upgrade now. It is possible that the upgrade could be available on one carrier for the same phone and yet not on another, which has become a pattern for Android rollouts.
As far as the upgrade on the flagships of last year's HTC One M9 and the HTC One M8, the flagship of two years ago, there hasn't really been any update as of last week. We mentioned before how these two flagships are still not completely covered as AT&T, and even Mo Versi on Twitter has nothing to say about that.
Versi is the VP of Product Management at HTC, and normally his tweets are a good indicator that the latest version of Android is on the way. Unfortunately, his last tweet is on April 29, and this is the one reporting the delay of Android M on AT&T. This tweet stated that "we're in lab but looking at approval within the next couple weeks".
So that would mean about two weeks, right? Yeah, that deadline is pretty much almost up, so if this is true, then AT&T customers should have that Marshmallow goodness on the flagship phones from this year and last year. Unfortunately, HTC has been very quiet when it comes to Android phones that are not their flagships.
A recent report from Tech Radar says that HTC confirmed back in September of last year that they will be updating a lot of their Android phones which include the HTC one M9+, HTC One E9, HTC One ME, HTC One E8, HTC One M8 EYE, HTC Butterfly 3, HTC Desire 826, HTC Desire 820, and HTC Desire 816. It also states that the One A9, Desire Eye, and One E9 will also get the Android Marshmallow update, but mum is still the word on the timing of it.
