When it comes to Android, the newest versions will always roll out as slow as molasses to anything that isn't a Google Nexus product. With Android M (also known as Android Version 6.0 or just Marshmallow) now showing up on a lot of Android devices, it stands to reason that HTC is pretty well-covered. This is the latest news on Android M Version 6.0 Marshmallow Release Date for HTC One M9, the One M8, and the Desire series for Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, US Cellular, and T-Mobile.
When I say pretty well covered, I mean that the flagship for this last year has it. Not only does the HTC One M9 have it on what looks to be all five of the major United States carriers, the flagship phone from two years ago, the HTC One M8 has it as well. There are reports coming in from satisfied customers from all carriers on these with the Marshmallow upgrade.
The only one that isn't satisfied are those users of the HTC One M7, as this phone is now three years old. HTC will only guarantee the latest version of Android for two years following an Android phone's release. Speaking of promises about HTC, the company has a target 90-day promise for the latest version of Android, and it might have been a little late on its flagships.
According to Pocket Lint, there are other HTC phones that are slated to be receiving the Android upgrade, and they include:
- HTC One M9+
- HTC One E9+
- HTC One M8
- HTC One E9
- HTC One ME
- HTC One E8
- HTC One M8 Eye
- HTC Butterfly 3
- HTC Desire 826
- HTC Desire 820
- HTC Desire 816
When it comes to these non-flagship phones from HTC, information on the Android upgrade has been quite sparse. Even performing searches for the Android Marshmallow Upgrade for (insert HTC brand of smartphone here) reveal little results.
There is a report on the International Business Times that is over a month old talking about the Android 6.0 and 6.0.1 (the next step up, which a lot of Android phones have received) coming to the HTC Desire EYE, 816, 820, Butterfly 3, and others. That report stated that it could take weeks for the Marshmallow upgrade to arrive on these miscellaneous HTC phones.
It is quite possible that these HTC phones have received their upgrade already, so if you happen to be a user of one of these phones, you should check your "Settings" and "System Update" to see if you can download the Over the Air (OTA) upgrade now. It is possible that the upgrade could be available on one carrier for the same phone and yet not on another.
