Since Google announced the rollout out of their own operating system Android M (also known as version 6.0 or Marshmallow), the first to get it was their own Nexus devices. This left a lot of Android users of Samsung products wondering when they would receive their Marshmallow upgrade. Fortunately, Samsung is one of the biggest Android device distributors and wants to get the latest upgrade to their customers, and a recently leaked list might reveal that it will arrive sooner. Here's what is known about the Android M Version 6.0 Marshmallow Release Date for Samsung Galaxy Note 5, S6, S6 +, S6 Edge, S6, Note 4, Note Edge on U.S. Carriers like Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
According to Tech Times, the Galaxy Note 5 update looks to be right around the corner. The last known schedule for rollout said that it looked to be released in December 2015. However, the most recent map has changed the status from "approved to "uploading." This might mean that users could see this update in the next couple of days.
Previously the S6 Edge plus was slated to be released in December 2015, the new release date for this smartphone seems to be on a slight delay- looking at January of 2016. Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge seem to be on schedule as was noted before that they should be updated in January. The updates for the Note 4 and Note Edge are also still on their update course of February.
Galaxy S5 users will have a substantially longer wait- as the updated release date is scheduled for April 2016. At least they will get the update, eventually. It appears that Samsung will not update the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 past Lollipop.
There is a way to get the Marshmallow update for those Galaxy S4 users. This way is only for those with Galaxy S4 (MODEL NUMBER S4 GT-I9505 INTERNATIONAL LTE MODELS ONLY). It is custom made for these devices, so if a user tries installing it on any other device or model, it can brick their device. The procedure as found in a recent article on Neurogadget as follows:
- This tutorial is only for installing Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based CyanogemMod CM13 custom ROM for Samsung Galaxy S4 with model number S4 GT-I9505 international LTE models only. Installing this ROM on any other devices, including other Galaxy S4 variants, could brick your device.
- The Samsung Galaxy S4 must have at least 80 percent or above battery to avoid power off during the installation process.
- The smartphone must be rooted before installing the custom ROM and have latest ClockworkMod recovery installed on the device.
- Make sure that the Samsung Galaxy S4 USB drivers are installed on the PC. Backup all the data, additional files and apps as installing custom ROM will erase the memory of the device.
So cover all bases and don't install this without being fully aware that the Marshmallow update must be so worth potentially damaging the device. This is a highly technical method and will be done at the Galaxy S4 user's risk.
