Considering that the upgrade for Android 6.0 (also known as Android M or Marshmallow) has been rolled out for about a few months now, it is really only a matter of time before "newer" Android phones are getting it. One company that is getting its upgrade are certain models from Sony, but there have been problems being reported with this Android 6.0 upgrade. As Android Pit has reported, Sony announced on March 7 the rollout of Marshmallow beginning for the Xperia Z5 series, the Z4 Tablet, and the Z3+ all made from Sony's Xperia News Twitter Page. This is normally a good sign, as when the flagship phone from the company gets it, it is usually a good sign that it is on its way to other devices. Unfortunately, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade has been causing problems for these devices.
The International Business Times reports that many have complained about being unable to access the Google Play Store after updating. There have been various support forums saying that their phones have "crashed" with a pop-up window saying "Google Play Store has stopped". Sony responded by suggesting their consumers go with a factory reset, and some users said that resolved the issue while others said that their problems continued.
In fact, the Nashville Chatter Class has stated that the upgrade has been halted in Canada as the Canadian branch decided to stop the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Premium Marshmallow update in the country. This information was communicated via Twitter, saying that the Xperia Z5 family has stopped the upgrade temporarily. Apparently, this is the result of the same bug, and it is recommended that users clear the Play Store data and disable location services before re-installing the Android system.
Tech Times reports that Sony will roll out an update that should permanently fix the issue. As for the other devices to receive the upgrade, hopefully they will not have as much trouble. The list of those to receive the upgrade include the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua, and Xperia C4, according to Android Pit.
If you have one of these Sony devices that has the download available, it is not recommended you attempt to download this unless you are willing to take a risk with it. If you are in the United States, you should probably check your "Settings" and "System Update" to see if you carrier (Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular, AT&T, or T-Mobile) has it available, as some carriers have been known to receive the upgrade before others.
