Two months ago, Google proudly announced the official rollout of Android Version 6.0, also known as Android M or Marshmallow. Since Marshmallow has already become available on Google's newest Nexus devices, it is only a matter of time before it comes to other newer Android devices like those from Sony. This is what is known about the Android M Version 6.0 Marshmallow Release Date for Sony Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact, Z5 Premium, Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3 series, and Z2 Tablet for U.S. carriers like Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile.
An interesting development in the Android Marshmallow rollout for Sony is a recent report from VC Post saying that the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet will begin this month and not arrive any later than March 2016. That's pretty fast considering the age of the tablet. Another tablet from the Xperia collection is going to be the most recently released Z4 Tablet, which currently runs the latest version of Lollipop, Android version 5.1.1.
According to Pocket-Lint, other devices planned to receive the upgrade include Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua, and Xperia C4.
Tech Times reports that the Xperia Z5 could receive its Android M upgrade sometime in January 2016. If that is true, than the other similar phones of the Z5, such as the Z5 Compact and Z5 Premium, should also receive their Android upgrade. It has been reported that the unlocked variants of the Z5 will be the first to get the software upgrade, but not all carriers issue a software release for a smartphone at the same time.
That means that if you are a Z5 user of one of their three versions of smartphones, you might end up waiting possibly months longer than others. This would apply to U.S. carriers like Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, US Cellular, and T-Mobile.
So what is the status of the Android 6.0 rollout? According to Android Pit, Z3 and Z3 Compact users who had registered for beta testing received the company's concept build of Marshmallow the week beginning October 19. Now that build is receiving its first OTA update. This update will be rolled out gradually, so there will be some patience required for the testing.
Unfortunately, Sony hasn't really put out any type of schedule saying when the updates are coming. However, it would appear that certain Sony devices that are currently running Android Lollipop with versions below Android 5.1.1, such as the Sony Xperia Z3+, the Z4 Tablet, C4, C5 Ultra, and the M5, will be going straight to version 6.0.
