If there is one thing about the modern day devices that we bring around with us, it would be this: They tend to require software updates from time to time in order to operate at peak efficiency. Well, that is perfectly fine, although it is a departure from the older days when upgrades belonged to the sole domain of the hardware department. It looks like with the recent announcement of iOS 10, the biggest mobile OS update from Apple to date, more information surrounding it has been revealed. Among them is this: Apple is looking forward to integrate organ donor registration in iOS 10 itself, taking just a few taps for that to happen.

I suppose with Apple being Apple, their DNA is to make it as easy as possible to achieve things, and the idea of integrating organ donor registration into your iOS 10 update comes across as a brilliant one. This new feature will be part of the Health app, where users can then willingly sign up to give up their organs, eyes, and tissue when the time comes for them to bid this world adieu. Of course, as to whether those organs and other recyclable body parts (if you will) will still be in good condition by the time that happens remains to be seen, but it is an added incentive for those of us who are still alive to do our level best to ensure that everything is in tip top condition to the best of our ability.

All registrations to be organ donors that are submitted on the iPhone will then be sent directly to the National Donate Life Registry. This particular feature will roll out at the same time that iOS 10 is launched later this fall, although one ought to take note that the software itself will also be made available through a public beta later this month if one is unwilling to wait that long.

Amidst all of this, we should also take note that you can always sign up with the National Donate Life Registry directly if you want to, as opposed to waiting for iOS 10 to arrive. It is safe to say that the shortage of organ donations has been a perennial problem not only in the US, but also all over the world. Perhaps with iOS 10 making it a whole lot more convenient and easier to sign up to be an organ donor, this issue might be alleviated somewhat. In the meantime, it pays to keep yourself healthy and in optimal shape so that someone else can benefit from whatever organs that are still usable when you buy the farm.

Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer, shared, "With the updated Health app, we're providing education and awareness about organ donation and making it easier than ever to register. It's a simple process that takes just a few seconds and could help save up to eight lives. Together with Donate Life America, we're excited to deliver this new feature to iPhone users in the US with iOS 10."
