‘Archer’ Season 7 Release Date and Plan for the Year

Archer Season 7
Archer Season 7 returns on March 31st FX

Archer is one of those shows that has a cult following, but it has had some shaky seasons.  The animated show aimed for an adult audience will be returning to the FX network at the end of the month, and it will continue the story of the group of ex-spies who will be attempting to find a new life for themselves.  Hopefully, this will end up much better than the last time this reformatting was tried in Season 5, and this is the news of the release date for Archer Season 7.

In the beginning, Archer began as a satire of what looked to be sixties/seventies James Bond films, with its animation having a distinct cold war flavor to it.  Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin), the main character, is not exactly James Bond, but he isn't clumsy like Maxwell Smart.  Archer  the show and the character is capable of some pretty great action, but he is clearly not the sharpest weapon in America's arsenal.  Archer has clearly got his job thanks to his mother, Mallory (Jessica Walter), and seasons 1-4 were essentially a lot of spy missions with very little linked storyline.

The appeal of the show was that even though there was occasional action, the characters and their interaction sell it.  Most of the show is pretty dialogue-heavy, and that works for it.  There is also a romance between Archer and Lana Kane (Aisha Tyler), and the two of them are now together after years of fighting with each other, a classic romantic comedy trope.

Season 5 was considered a backwards step as the show changed its name to Archer Vice, and the show was all about how the spy agency failed and Archer and his friends had to sell tons of cocaine (it was a clear homage to Miami Vice, except that Archer and company were playing the role of the bad guys).

In season 6, the gang was back in the spy business, and had to stop with the previous agency name of ISIS (yes, this was before the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was in the news).  Season 6 ended with the agency having to again disband due to too many failed missions, but Sterling stated that he had some ideas.

So what ideas were they for Season 7?  According to iDigitalTimes, it looks like Archer is going back to its 80's homage, but this time, it is a tribute to Magnum P.I.  A trailer is below, and it looks like the title sequence to the hit show starring Tom Selleck, and Archer himself is sporting a very cool mustache.  To spoil the ending, it turns out that Archer was imaging what it would look like, so it is possible that he wants to him and his friends to be some kind of freelance private eyes, maybe in Hawaii.  If you are curious what the characters were talking about with "phrasing", then you are clearly not a fan of the show.

You can see for yourself when Archer returns to FX on March 31, at 10 P.M.
