October 21, 2015 is Back to the Future Day October212015.com

There has been a meme appearing on Facebook saying that "Today is the day Marty McFly arrives when he travels to the future".  The purpose of this is to make one feel old, and to remind us that the future shown in Back to the Future II is actually today.  Whoever keeps making that meme is wrong, as the second part of the classic time-travel comedy adventure series reveals that the precise date is October 21, 2015.  This date is coming up, and many wish to celebrate October 21, 2015 as Back to the Future Day.

According to the official Back to the Future Day site, Mondo is planning on releasing a limited edition box set on Back to the Future Day, which has the soundtrack of all three films by now famous film composer Alan Silvestri.  Speaking of releases, the 30th anniversary of the first film is coming in theform of a re-release of the trilogy onto Blu-ray and DVD, in the form of a flux capacitor.

According to PepsiCo, one way to celebrate is by purchasing a Pepsi Perfect.  This was a soda briefly introduced in the second film, and they will be available to purchase online on the Pepsi site while supplies last.  Pepsi is making 6,500 of these bottles in a special collectible case.  These 16.9 bottles will contains Pepsi Made with Real Sugar and will sell for $20.15.  Yes, that is a lot for one bottle of soda, but if you recall the inflation revealed in the 2015 of Back to the Future II, that is actually the correct price.  In fact, some of the Pepsi Perfect bottles that were given out at New York Comic Con are selling on eBay for $250.00.

Right now, there is a Facebook page that wishes to celebrate it, and it has over 40,000 likes and counting.  It will probably be more as we now go into October 21, 2015, as we welcome in a new era with flying cars, floating skateboards, accurate weather prediction, suspended animation kennels, abolished lawyers, age-defying makeovers, and holographic movies.  Okay, we really don't have any of those things in 2015, but at least we don't have the skyrocketed inflation.

Perhaps the lesson learned from this is that predicting the future is never accurate.  In 1989, when Back to the Future II was first released, the future of 2015 wasn't a dark future as seen in many science fiction films, but it was one with some advancement but still the same basic problems of today.  At the time, most of us wanted to believe that the world would look like that pastel colored one, but like it or not, this is 2015.
