Christians in Mainland Hold Faith Forums and Festival for Lunar New Year

On January 23, Christian from various denominations and professions in China gathered to seek unity, to encourage harmony in the government, corporations, families and churches, and to ask the Lord to bless their city and nation during this time before the Lunar New Year.

According to reports of Christian media from mainland, Shenzhen Christian Church business fellowship titled the large-scale festivity “Seeking Unity in Unison, Enjoying Harmony Together”, which featured two forums on “Faith and Arts” and “Faith and Professions” and a “Spring Light” Lunar New Year Gala party at night.

Pastoral workers, Christian businessmen, and believers from within and outside of Shenzhen eagerly participated. Various well-known pastors and ministry staffs from Hong Kong participated to show their support, including Rev. Hiu-Tung Chan, vice-chairman of Tao Fong Shan Christian Center, and Dr. Shing-Lam Li, president of Christian Ministry Institute. Around 1,200 people showed up that day.

At the Shenzhen Christian Church, the forums were divided into the morning and afternoon sections. In the morning, the discussions focused on importance of Christian cultural commission and the methods of gospel dissemination through multi-media and other aspects of arts. In the afternoon, the topics of discussion were about the relationship between faith and work, such as balance of faith and work, the directions of Christian professionals’ status and church relationships. The speakers included influential Christian soprano Christina Chan, Guang-Ping Chen, Heng-Tan Shi, Christian entrepreneur Da-Quen Shi, Zhen Yen, etc.

Later that night, the “Spring Light” Lunar New Year festivity, held at the Great China International Investment Plaza in Futian District, featured praise and worship and testimonial sharing from various influential celebrities, including Stella Chee, a Canton pop-singer famous in the 70s.

Shenzhen Christian Church business fellowship was founded in January 2006; their membership grew exponentially, where presently they have 50 co-workers and their gatherings sometimes reach as many as 1,500 participants.
