There has been a lot of excitement with the release of Captain America: Civil War, which really took the whole superhero program at the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a very different direction. This could take the Netflix/Marvel Cinematic Universe (still taking place within the same universe as The Avengers and their solo films) in a different direction, and this darker universe features Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and now The Punisher. So what is going to happen with Daredevil Season 3, and how will it fit in with this Defenders Universe?
Season 2 of Daredevil ended on a weird note, but it did properly introduce the viewer to the new MCU version of The Punisher. Also, the fact that Daredevil (Charlie Cox) revealed his identity to Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) is going to lead to something interesting. In fact, it would be wise for Season 3 to start seconds after this important revelation.
Movie Pilot has revealed that there is a "good chance" that an iconic villain will be revealed in Season 3, and that would be Bullseye. It really makes a lot of sense, as there was a sniper with a deck of cards shown in Season 1, and this got the fans talking. In the comic book source material, Bullseye killed not only Elektra, but Karen Page as well. So far, the show has strayed from the source material with Elektra, but Karen could possibly get it.
You can read our review of that season here, but this season begin a plotline with Elektra, as well as the Hand, some kind of plotline known as Black Sky, and then it didn't even end. Well, apparently, Daredevil stopped the guys from The Hand, but considering that he stopped someone that he unintentionally killed last season, is he really stopped? It does seem that Elektra is truly dead, but the good news is that this plotline can continue in the other Netflix/Marvel shows.
Luke Cage is planning to show up on September 30th with his own series, but in spite of being a great introduction on Jessica Jones, it looks like his Harlem-focused stories will keep him out of Hell's Kitchen. The issue is that Iron Fist has some martial arts and mysticism, which would really fit well with the unfinished plotlines in Daredevil Season 2.
Ecumenical News revealed that Charlie Cox really has no idea if Daredevil will even return for a third season. The issue is that Defenders is going to be start its production for the end of the week, so this could be airing in lieu of a new season of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and the other characters who have their own shows.
Hopefully, Marvel and Netflix has a long-term plan for these characters, and has some kind of filming plan for them. It is interesting that we live in an age where comic book movies are box office big bucks, and how cramming a lot of them into a film can create bigger bucks. However, this isn't like the comic books, where you can just draw them in, so Marvel and Netflix better figure out what they want to do. However, Marvel has been doing pretty good so far, so this Netflix universe will probably be feather in Marvel's cap.
