Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist: The Defenders. Marvel/Netflix

With comic book subject matter dominating the silver screen and the small screen, it just makes sense that Netflix and Marvel worked together to create Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and now The Punisher in a connected universe that actually connects with the Marvel Avengers Cinematic Universe.  In case you are concerned about where the Netflix series are going, there is a plan, and the next step is Luke Cage, which is before the big team-up of The Defenders.

So far, these Marvel series haven't had many connections.  Daredevil has had two seasons with Jessica Jones Season 1 in the middle.  Only a few minor characters have intersected with these two shows, but the villains and storylines haven't really carried over all that much.  I mean, Jessica Jones was mentioned in Season 2 of Daredevil, and Daredevil's partner Foggy Nelson is going to work for Jeri Horgath, a character introduced in Jessica Jones

Luke Cage, the next series up to bat, is about a character that was also well-established in Jessica Jones.  In case you are wondering about how Luke Cage (coming to Netflix on September 30) is going to fit in with this Netflix/Marvel universe, I wouldn't worry too much about that.  A recent article on Cinema Blend discusses with the actor Mahershala Ali and why Luke Cage is going to be so important.

Luke Cage is going to feature a very diverse cast, says Ali.  Ali plays a "Godfather-type" villain Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes, and he is a drug lord who has strength powers equal to that of the title character, played by Mike Colter.

Ali believes that Luke Cage is going to be the most diverse series on Netflix so far, and the cast also features Frankie Faison, Erik LaRay Harvey, Darius Kaleb and Simone Missick.  It is also believed that Cage will be an interesting focal point, and Marvel is going to have even more to show African-Americans in the upcoming Black Panther movie.  Don't forget that these Netflix shows and the Avengers movies take place in the same universe.

Speaking of things that take place in the same universe, is there any new word about the new Iron Fist show?  It is coming up next, and if there is a new Marvel Netflix show coming about every six months, then Iron Fist should arrive in spring of 2017.

So far, there hasn't been much news about Iron Fist other than the fact that it will exist.  So far, it seems to be one that will tie-in with whatever story these Netflix writers are playing out in this long-term plan.  Daredevil Season 2 announced a lot of mystical ninja stuff, and Iron Fist's powers are mystical in origin.  There has also been a mention of a drug known as Steel Serpent on the show, which is the name of an Iron Fist villain.  So there could be some kind of set-up happening here.

After Iron Fist, then what will probably happen is either Daredevil Season 3 or Jessica Jones Season 2, or all the characters will be combined for The Defenders.  There is also going to be The Punisher series premiering sometime in November of 2017, according to Screen Geek.
