Deep Silver's Dead Island 2 Steam page has been deleted, resulting for rumours that the anticipated sequel is indefinitely on hold. But several websites say the game might be re-revealed at a later date, or it might be cancelled. Now, here's the latest round-up of update about Dead Island 2 release date rumors.

The removal of the game's Steam listing was reported in NeoGAF. A user named DeathSparks saw that the sequel's listing was pulled from the Steam. SteamDB refers it now as "Unknown App 268150". The relevant tags and the rest of the store description were also removed. The discovery of the situation fuels speculations that Dead Island 2 may have been cancelled. However, others still keep their hopes high as they expect it as an indication of re-revealing of the game. The game's Steam page was based on Yager Development ideas for the sequel.

Rumors around the internet also claim the game will not be released. Game developer Yager previously dropped the game to pass it to Sumo Digital. Also, some gamers speculate game publisher Deep Silver might abandon the title.

On the other hand, Deep Silver has issued a comment about the removal of Dead Island's sequel from Steam.

"Dead Island 2 is in development with Sumo Digital. Once we have new details to share, we will do so."

The sequel to the Zombie-themed game was announced back at E3 2014 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. According to a Game Rant report, Dead Island 2 was meant to be a Yager Development product. As time goes by, the game developer seemed less likely to announce the title's 2015 release date, and eventually, the sequel was reportedly put on indefinite hold. In an official statement, Yager Development and game publisher Deep Silver revealed they could not agree on a vision for the Dead Island sequel. After that, the game publisher announced in July 2015 that the sequel's development will be handed to Sumo Digital, which is a popular game developer of LittleBigPlanet 3 and Sonic racing games.

Additionally, the present game developer had a hand in the development of Forza 2 Presents, Fast & Furious, Disney Infinity 3.0 and Crackdown 3. Sumo Digital is also rumoured to create the PC version of Rock Band 4 once it is crowdfunded successfully.
