Considering that millions are playing Bungie's hit science-fiction shooter game Destiny, it was really only a matter of time before it spawned a sequel, and now that news of a Destiny 2 is official. The Release Date is not specific, but there are some specific release dates set for the next expansion and one more due out later this year.
According to Forbes, Destiny's "Crimson Days" opened up an interesting workaround that players could do to receive some free items. The special event, planned to coincide with Valentine's Day, featured a 2 vs. 2 crucible mode with some special endgame loot of a ghost shell that rolls up to 320 light.
The game awards this ghost shell no matter how many kills you have, and this is for crucible matches that end quickly. Many players were entering the match, and then kill themselves, so they both received the loot. It is possible that Bungie could fix this particular exploit so it doesn't happen again. However, since the Crimson Days event stops running on Tuesday, February 16, at 1:00 AM, it is doubtful that this will be patched up.
However, Bungie is going to have its hands very full in the next year as they have finally made a formal announcement that a full Destiny sequel is coming for a 2017 Release Date. Neurogadget reports that the Destiny franchise is suffering from a lot of criticism, even after the expansion of "The Taken King" revitalized it. Many fans have become disillusioned or bored with the content, turning away from the game as it was expected to receive more support and content. Perhaps this sequel could bring the franchise back to its original glory, or even surpass it.
There really hasn't been much details revealed about Destiny 2, other than the fact that it is coming in 2017, but there isn't any specific release date. Bungie has a full ten-year plan for this gaming franchise, and there have been talks of how the character that you create in the first Destiny game will carry over into Destiny 2. By the way, Destiny 2 is not the sequel's official name.
In addition to the planned sequel, there are also plans for an update this spring and another expansion later. This new expansion is set to arrive on February 23, according to Softpedia. This new version will introduce a lot of Light Levels, more gear for Guardians to earn and use, and new challenges that are designed for the Player versus Environment oriented players. Bungie does not report on whether or not there will be strikes or a new raid, and they could be just a new version of the mechanics that Destiny players already know.
Whatever the case, the new expansion in the early spring is not expected to be free, but there isn't really any word on price. The same goes for the next expansion, which is expected to come later in 2016, and it is expected to be bigger. There will be more news on the expansions coming later, and there will most certainly be news about the sequel that will be coming later than that.
