The film Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' has already been released in Japan, and a new clip has been released for viewers in the United States. The English dubbed version of the film will have a limited run in theaters across the U.S. in August.
According to Jonathon Dornbush of Entertainment Weekly, the latest Dragon Ball Z film brings back Frieza, one of the franchise's greatest villains. The clip, which was exclusively obtained by Entertainment Weekly, showed the intense rivalry between Frieza and Goku.
"As the clip suggests, Frieza is wasting no time putting Goku, Vegeta, and other memorable faces to the test, powering up more quickly than he ever has before," Dornbush wrote.
Dornbush added that "it will take everything Goku and his friends have to best their longtime foe." He noted that the film would have a limited run in North American theaters from Aug. 4-12.
"Fathom Events and Funimation have partnered to bring the film to theaters following last year's Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods," Dornbush wrote. "The film, supervised by series creator Akira Toriyama, will also screen with a specially created 15-minute pre-show for those in attendance."
For Dragon Ball Z fans who live in the Los Angeles area, a report from Animae News Network pointed out that FUNimation Entertainment will premiere the film's English dub at Animae Expo. That event will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Regal LA LIVE Stadium 14.
"Funimation hosted the North American premiere of the film on April 11 in Los Angeles," Animae News Network wrote.
Animae News Network elaborated on who would be joining the English-language cast.
"Chris Ayres is returning to play Frieza in the English dub," Animae News Network wrote. "He previously played the character in the Dragon Ball Z Kai edition of the earlier television anime series. Todd Haberkorn will join the cast as Jaco."
According to Animae News Network, animation director Tadayoshi Yamamuro directed the latest Dragon Ball Z film. The manga's original creator, Akira Toriyama, elaborated on how he came up with "F" in the latest film title.
"Toriyama said in an interview in November that the 'F' in the film's title stands for 'Frieza,' who is revived in the film," Animae News Network wrote. "Toriyama noted that he thought of the title while listening to 'F' by rock band Maximum The Hormone, whom he came to know personally through a friend."
Animae News Network added that the band's music was used as a "battle song" in the film. Toriyama "is personally credited with the original concept, screenplay, and character designs of the new movie."
Dornbush reported that tickets for the film can be purchased off the official Dragon Ball Z website.
