The Elder Scrolls 6 does seem to be one particular project that does not see the light of day, or at least, it takes a very long, long time in doing so. Official news surrounding the Elder Scrolls 6 does seem to be pretty scarce, like water in the desert, even with knowledge that gamers will simply have to make do with Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition as that rolls out some time later this year (including on the Nintendo Switch as speculated in 2017). The Elder Scrolls 6 remains elusive however, as though it is a figment of one’s imagination.

The thing is, is the Elder Scrolls 6 even official? The official answer would be “no”, although hope springs eternal. However, when you take into consideration the mammoth following that the Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has, then one sees a very different picture altogether. Skyrim (for short) has managed to sell over 20 million copies, which would make this as the most successful game in the 20-year-old franchise by far and large. Hence, the very fact that such a huge user base exists who would more than take an arrow to the knee for the Elder Scrolls 6 hit the market, makes the case for another title in the franchise.

So far, Bethesda has not given anything away, although they did admit that there will be a Skyrim sequel down the line. Bethesda Vice President Pete Hines did mention about how majority of the other game publishers would have seized the opportunity to roll out a Skyrim follow up without wasting too much time, with the amount of money there for the taking. Hines however, shared, "They'd be spitting out a Skyrim 2 the year after or two years later. That's just not how we view it. "[We] make sure everything we do is noteworthy. Our approach to that hasn't differed."

However, there are other clues scattered all over the place that do point to the existence of the Elder Scrolls 6. For instance, Bethesda has put up an advertisement for a "Quest Designer", and this particular position would require the person to have "Experience with The Elder Scrolls Construction Set".

With a four year gap opening up between Oblivion and Skyrim, that was a long enough time for fans of the franchise to wait. If the same pattern were to have been repeated, then we would have been playing the Elder Scrolls 6 for a year now, taking into consideration how Skyrim rolled out in 2011. Well, it looks like there is still a long time more to wait, especially when Peter Hines tweeted in August this year that “the elder scrolls vi isn't in development. we simply said we would make it eventually. don't want people to be misled.”

So far, we will just have to stay tuned as to when the Elder Scrolls 6 will see a release date, although 2019 would not seem to be too far off the mark, taking into consideration how Bethesda could already be making the necessary recruits at the moment, with a 3-year development plan being pretty realistic.
