A group of ghost hunters returns to the big screen next year. This time, the movie will feature four tough women. The movie franchise directed by Paul Feig made sure that the latest movie will be appealing for both old and young audiences.
Ghostbusters 3 will hit theaters in 2016, starring comedians Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon as a new team of scientists who are knowledgeable in the art of specter-catching.
The film is scheduled to hit theaters in July of next year. According to ScreenRant, expect Sony Pictures will release the first Ghostbusters trailer on Christmas Day 2015.
Ghostbusters fans still have to wait for six months before the movie release, but it has already gotten its marketing push started. Marketing experts said the movie producers might want to take advantage to the 2015 winter holiday season movie rush.
Four different websites release the new Ghostbusters character posters. Entertainment Weekly, Time, InStyle and People also gave the latest updates about the movie.
Here are the latest details on those websites:
- Kristen Wiig will play as Erin Gilbert who is a particle physicist, academic firebrand, spectral warrior.
- Melissa McCarthy will play as Abby Yates who is paranormal researcher, supernatural scientist, entity trapper.
- Leslie Jones will play as Patty Tolan who is a Ghost tracker, municipal historian, metaphysical commando.
- Kate McKinnon will play as Jillian Holtzman who is nuclear engineer, munitions expert, proton wrangler.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Director Paul Feig said the four stars were able to play well throughout the whole production of the movie.
"They are four incredibly talented women, each with a unique voice and style of comedy. The fact that they meshed so well and complemented each other so well made this team of paranormal warriors a very interesting and fully-rounded group," the director said in the interview.
Furthermore, Feig confirmed that the latest movie will not be a sequel of the previous two Ghostbusters films. The 2016 Ghostbusters will be a total reboot of the franchise with all female leads. For former Ghostbuster star Dan Akyord, he told the Hollywood Reporter that wants to do a Ghostbusters-style universe in line with what Marvel has done with its own shared universe.
For the film's plot synopsis, it is about the ghostbusting adventures of Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates, who are two unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. The pair will be united with other Ghostbusters to save the world from supernatural beings that invade Manhattan.
Ghostbusters opens in U.S. theaters on July 15th, 2016.
