As it gets closer to November 2016, all eyes will be watching the presidential candidates as they go through many rounds of debates. Some Republican candidates are not making the cut, but those that have will be debating on February 13th on Saturday Night on CBS. This will be the last Republican debate before the party's next nominating contest of the South Carolina Republican party on February 20th. The debate will now have a smaller amount of candidates as Chris Christie left the race along with Carly Fiorina. As predicted, Jim Gilmore will not be showing as well, which leaves candidates Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, John Kasich, Jeb Bush, and Ben Carson.
CBS News reports the qualifications required for each of the candidates:
1) Place among the top five candidates ranked according to the popular vote in the New Hampshire Republican primary on Feb. 9;
2) Have placed among the top three candidates ranked according to the popular vote in the Iowa Republican caucuses on Feb. 1;
3) Place among the top five candidates in an average of national and South Carolina Republican presidential polls conducted over a four-week period starting on Jan. 15, 2016 and recognized by CBS News; and receive a minimum of 3 percent in the Iowa, New Hampshire results or the South Carolina or national polls. To be included, polls must be conducted and released to the public before 12 p.m. ET on Feb. 12, 2016.
For those that want to watch the debate for themselves, it will air on CBS at 9 PM ET (8 PM CT, 7 PM MT, and 6 PM PT), and it can be livestreamed at CBSNews.com. AL.com states the debate will take place at the Peace Center in South Carolina, and will be moderated by John Dickerson of Face the Nation. Also along for moderating duties include Major Garrett, chief White House correspondent at CBS News, and Kimberley Strassel of the Wall Street Journal.
The Republicans will debate three more times after this week. The next Republican debate is for February 25th, and it will be in Houston, Texas, airing on CNN and Telemundo. The next debate after that is on March 3, in Detroit, Michigan, to be moderated by Bret Baier, Megyn Kelly, and Chris Wallace. It will be followed by a March 10 debate in Florida on CNN, with more details to come.
As for the Democrats, they are scheduled to debate on March 6 in Flint, Michigan on CNN, which is one of four debates in their schedule. Then, only three days later, there is a debate scheduled in Miami, Florida from Univision and The Washington Post.
