After Showtime released the first footage for ‘Homeland’ season 6, viewers can expect that Carrie Mathison returns with Saul Berenson and the tricky Dar Adal. However, the trailer does not show Peter Quinn, who was last pronounced brain dead in the finale of the fifth season.
In the ‘Homeland’ season 6 trailer, Claire Danes’ character is thrust into the spotlight as she lives life in New York with her daughter, Franny, following her stint in Berlin, Germany last season. The footage also features Mandy Patinkin as Saul and F. Murray Abraham as Dar Adal as they carry out a conversation about Carrie.
After the Blacks Ops director calls Carrie “a menace,” Patinkin’s character replies with: “It would be a huge embarrassment.”
In another scene, Carrie also confronts Saul, who seems to be giving her a warning by saying: "I wouldn't play well at all." Adal also asks Carrie to give up with her efforts but Danes’ character only answers back with: "No, you stand down."
"I don't think you understand how vulnerable you are," Adal says to Carrie before the trailer ends.
“I don't think you do,” Carrie responds.
Meanwhile, despite Quinn’s absence from the latest footage, actor Rupert Friend is expected to reprise his role in ‘Homeland’ season 6. Friend was seen filming with co-star Danes out in the streets of New York.
Showrunner Alex Gansa previously opened up about Quinn's storyline at the Television Critics Association press tour, although the producer did not reveal too many details.
“Quinn is alive – I can say that much. But we want to be really careful about revealing what his condition is,” Gansa said. “He suffered a major stroke last season... so he is a very changed and altered Quinn this year... He had a fairly rough ride last season, no doubt about it."
"Quinn this coming season will really represent a very profound and familiar casualty of the war on terror for our audience. What he endured last year is different from what he's going through this year [when it comes to Carrie]," Gansa further explained about Friend's character.
Now, as Carrie returns to the United States to work with a New York-based foundation, she finds herself offering help to Muslims residing in the country. As shown in the teaser, the government has made Muslims a key priority in an attempt to get rid of “homegrown, do-it-yourself jihadists.”
Politics will be steered in multiple directions when ‘Homeland’ season 6 arrives; the new installment takes place between a presidential election and the induction. President-elect Elizabeth Keane, who will be played by Elizabeth Marvel, tries to keep up in maintaining order and safety within the country and across the world.
The ‘Homeland’ season 6 premiere date has been set on Jan. 15 at 9pm ET/PT on Showtime. The official trailer can be viewed below.
