Those that jailbreak the iOS operating system on the iPhone, iPad, or even the iPod Touch enjoy having their Apple's software restrictions removed.  Again, we make the disclaimer that you should do it because it can be technically complicated.  In fact, the big jailbreakers at TaiG and Pangu are still struggling to overcome iOS versions 9.1 and beyond.  This makes it very difficult as Apple has iOS version 9.2, 9.2.1, and 9.3, which is currently in beta, and will be available for download very soon.  It is recommended that jailbreakers stay at iOS 9.0 as long as they can, and here is the latest news on the jailbreaking iOS 9.1, 9.2, 9.2.1, and even 9.3. 

For those that have iOS 9.0, 9.0.1, and 9.0.2, then jailbreaking is possible thanks to Pangu 9, and it took a lot of people by surprise, including those at Apple.  Redmond Pie reports that it has been widely accepted that the security loopholes used in the latest Pangu jailbreak were patched by Apple in the beta 4 of iOS 9.1.

Considering that Apple has version 9.2 and now 9.2.1 of iOS available, it means that anyone that has iOS 9.1 through iOS 9.2.1 is unable to jailbreak their iDevice.  If you are hoping to deliberately downgrade to 9.0.2, then that has been made impossible by Apple.  So anyone who is on any iOS 9.1 and wishes to jailbreak should not attempt any upgrades unless new jailbreaking tech for anything iOS 9.1 come down the line. 

A report from Neurogadget says that after releasing iOS 9.1, Apple confirmed in a document that they have patched two vulnerabilities that have been used by the Pangu team, and then later announced that a Jailbreak Me-like jailbreak exists for iOS 9.1 and iOS 9.2.  Sadly, the public will not ever see these jailbreaks. 

To make it even more complicated, there were rumors of Pangu's efforts to jailbreak iOS 9.2, but then Apple released iOS 9.2.1 beta, it got even more complicated.  Rumors began that the TaiG team had a jailbreak for iOS 9.1 and 9.2, and 3K Assisted at posted an announcement which was removed after a short time. 

The one name that keeps appearing when it comes to jailbreaking is Luca Tedesco, and Italian developer who boasted of his ability to jailbreak iOS 9.2.1 on his iPhone 6. He never said whether his jailbreak for iOS 9.2.1 would be available to the public.  Tedesco also said that he was able to jailbreak iOS 9.3, the Beta 1 version that just came out.  He had had a video showing off that he could do this, but he doesn't seem to want to release this untethered jailbreak for iOS 9.3 beta, not to mention iOS 9.2 or 9.2.1. 

In other words, the jailbreaks for iOS 9.1 and beyond might not come, but if this one programmer can jailbreak iOS 9.3, that gives jailbreakers some hope.  Until then, stay at iOS 9.0 as long as possible until more news breaks on the higher iOS version jailbreaks.
