Houston Rockets point guard Jeremy Lin will be sharing his life testimony at a large-scale evangelistic conference in San Francisco Bay Area on September 7th. New York Times best-selling author and pastor Francis Chan will be sharing the stage with Lin to address a common question that people today ask: What really matters in life?
“Do you ever feel like you are just keeping up with various roles that society has labeled you with and are just going through the motions to keep up an image of an identity that isn’t truly yours?” writes organizers of Identity Unleashed, a one night free event held on September 7th at the Cow Palace in Daly City, California, on its website.
“We all have an identity, and now is time to unleash it,” writes the organizers, who wish to use the night to “empower” and help participants to “define the core” of who they are and discover what their “identity is in a positive light.”
“God’s definition of what matters is pretty straightforward. He measures our lives by how we love,” said Francis Chan, the author of New York Times best-selling book Crazy Love, according to Identity Unleashed website.
Singer-songwriter Tyler Ward, whose first original release, Hello. Love. Heartbreak. (September 2012) went to #1 across 15 worldwide iTunes singer/songwriter charts within 12 hours of release, will be performing that night.
Moreover, Blackford Hill consisting of singer songwriters Sam Talbert and Sara Oromchi, who showed cased in the first season of hit TV show The Voice, will perform.
Jeremy Lin, 24, did not perform as well on the courts this season as he did during the Linsanity period, so sports commentators wrote articles doubting his ability to play with the Houston Rockets as NBA All-Star Dwight Howard signs on the team, which sparked a heated debate. However, Lin has found peace through his faith in God and Jesus Christ to get through times of difficulties and even times filled with rumors.
“With all the media attention, all the love from fans, I felt I needed to prove myself. But I’ve surrendered that to God. I’m not in a battle with what everybody else thinks anymore,” writes Lin on Identity Unleashed’s website.
The news of Lin holding an evangelism conference in the San Francisco Bay Area was met with wide-spread approval and support from both the English-speaking and the Chinese-speaking Christian churches.
Following last year’s ‘Night of Miracle’ evangelism conference in Taipei, the Houston Rockets point guard will once again return to Taiwan in August to share his life testimony. This time, he will be preaching to over 18,000 youths, who will be traveling to Taipei to hear him speak, at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center on August 18th.
Growing up in a Christian family, Lin said that positive role models play a big part to why he is in NBA today. In a Google+ chat with military personnel earlier this month, Lin said that while Michael Jordan is his role model on the court for always winning, his older brother is his role model off the court for he taught him a lot about “what it means to be a man, to grow up and take responsibilities, and what character means – whether that is perseverance, humility, and love.”
To follow in the examples of his role models, Lin not only has started his own foundation, but is actively using his platform during the prime times of his career to share what God has done for him as he puts his passion on his Twitter profile, "To know him is to want to know him more."
