Justin Bieber Praises God During Manchester Concert; Selena Gomez Compliments Ex-Beau's "Beautiful" Performance

By Trisha Cerdena

Justin Bieber concluded his performance at the concert held for the benefit of Manchester victims by offering his praises to God. The Christian pop star sang and spoke to over 50,000 concert-goers at the One Love Manchester on June 4, saying that “God is good in the midst of the darkness.”

The star-studded concert was put together as tribute to the victims of the suicide bombing attack during Ariana Grande’s concert last May 22. While noticeably emotional, Justin Bieber also preached to the crowd, saying: "God is good in the midst of the evil. God is in the midst, no matter what is happening in the world, God is in the midst and he loves you and he is here for you."

By joining the concert and performing hits, such as “Love Yourself” and “Cold Water,” Bieber was able to help raise over $13 million for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund to aid the victims of the attack.

Ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez complimented his performance at the One Love Manchester concert, raking in positive responses from fans. “It was beautiful," Selena said during an interview with Sirius XM’s Morning Mashup. "I thought everyone did such a beautiful job … I thought Justin did great. It was really beautiful."

Justin Bieber came together with fellow music stars, such as Miley Cyrus, Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, and Coldplay for the benefit concert put together by Ariana Grande herself. The suicide bombing attack during her concert at the Manchester Arena led to 23 deaths that included an eight-year-old girl and other children. More than 100 people were injured in the attack carried out by 22-year-old Salman Abedi, a British-Muslim extremist.

Returning to Manchester for the concert, Grande made special appearances all throughout the show, including a performance when she wore a sweatshirt saying “One Love Manchester” and expressed her gratitude towards the audience.

"I want to thank you for coming together and being so loving and strong and unified,” the “Side to Side” songstress said, adding: "I love you guys so much, and I think that the kind of love and unity that you're displaying is the medicine that the world really needs right now."

Justin Bieber also shared his message for the victims and their families who were directly affected by the attack. "I just want to take this moment to honour the people that were lost, that were taken. We love you so much. To the families, we love you so much," he said.

The 23-year-old singer has become open and vocal about his religious beliefs over the past years, giving some of his time to leaders at Hillsong and other young Christian leaders. In his music and past interviews, Bieber has also opened up about wanting to live with the examples set by Jesus Christ.

"I just wanna honestly live like Jesus. Not be Jesus… He created a pretty awesome template of how to love people and how to be gracious and kind," Bieber said to Complex magazine last year.
