Kate Middleton and Prince William Welcomes Baby Boy; Queen Gives Final Approval on Name

By Eric Chen

Kate Middleton gave birth to a baby boy on Monday morning in St. Mary Hospital’s private Lindo Wing. The public has shifted their interests to the baby’s name choices that the royal couple Duchess Kate and Prince William will present to Queen Elizabeth for final approval.

Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton's first baby was born today at 4:24 pm local time in London's private St. Mary's Hospital, the palace announced, adding that the baby weighed 8.6 pounds, and boy's father was present for his arrival.

According to traditions, the royal families have named their heirs after their ancestors. Two popular choices with reference to royal family include Charles and Philip, but the number one favorite is George, the Mail Online reports.

Naming the baby boy George would pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II’s father, King George IV.

Meanwhile, Kate’s own family is also a potential source of name inspiration – her father’s name, Michael, is a possible contender for a boy’s name, as is his middle name, Francis, according to Hollywood Life. Both Will and Kate have links to the name Francis.

The Queen has the final say on the baby’s name. She will be presented with the main contenders for approval before anything is official.

ABC News has setup the live streaming.
