Will Walt Longmire ride again for a Season 5? Netflix/IGN

Fans of the show Longmire were grateful that Netflix was able to pick it up for a Season 4.  The show originally ran for three seasons on A&E, and, without revealing too much, there was a cliffhanger at the end of Season 4 that could easily be made into a Season 5.  It has been two weeks since Longmire Season 4 became available, and many have tuned in.  So shouldn't it be obvious if Season 5 was going to happen by now?  Not necessarily, as the runaway hit show Daredevil has revealed.

With what sounds like a success, it seems reasonable that Netflix would have announced a renewal of a Season 5 for the show, or some notice saying that Longmire won't be back for another season.  According to the Inquisitr, Netflix actually has good reason not to be in a hurry to tell anyone that Longmire will ride again.

The issue is that new season has really only been available for two weeks.  Sure, the diehard fans are going to binge-watch it as soon as they can, but there are others that honestly just don't have the time.  This isn't like network TV, where the company puts out a show, and then checks how many viewings it had when it first went live.

It is possible that even those who want to watch it haven't got around to watching it, and there is no way to gauge that.  Some might be watching one episode a week, and if metrics were taken now, there would be no way to tell if someone just watched two episodes and just gave up, or is planning on watching it again when they have the time.

Still, there is present evidence of the success of Longmire.  The two articles this author has written about on the Gospel Herald have achieved a lot of hits.  Most of the comments related to those articles are demanding more Longmire.

The last time this happened was when Daredevil began airing near the beginning of this year.  The Gospel Herald's first article about Daredevil Season 2 brought us an unprecedented amount of attention, and Season 2 is official and being filmed as of this writing.  It did take a few weeks after Season 1 aired before Season 2 was official.

Considering all the attention that is being focused on Longmire is very similar to what happened with Daredevil, it is pretty obvious that another season of Longmire is also in the cards.

This really is an interesting age that we live in where a television program is essentially watched in bulk rather than an episode-by-episode basis.  This means the shows have to have some kind of story that encompasses an entire season to keep viewers attending.  Rather than a few episodes killing an otherwise decent show, some new metric is going to have to be constructed in order to see whether or not a show merits cancellation.  Netflix really is making television shows a user-fed content experience.
