Marvel has revealed the star for its next Netflix series. The Game of Thrones actor Finn Jones is set to play as Danny Rand in the Iron First, according to Entertainment Weekly. Now, we'll give you the freshest update about the new Netflix show Iron Fist.
Finn Jonas, 27, is best known for his role as Ser Loras Tyrell, The Knight of Flowers, in the hit TV series from HBO. In the Iron First, the actor will be giving up his sword and armor and will head to streets of New York to fight criminals. His new role is a martial arts master that has an "ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist."
In the comics, Daniel Rand is the Iron Fist, who at the age of nine travels from New York to a mystical city called K'un-L'un. From that city, he learns to wield the Iron Fist, a technique that allows him to enhance his strength and speed to superhuman levels. As an adult, Rand goes back to New York City to fight the evil forces.
The new Netflix series will feature more Earth-bound adventures of Rand and some of the more grounded villains, according to Screenrant. This description fits the general feeling in the current Daredevil and Jessica Jones series, and is just a little simpler to explain on screen with a tight television budget.
Compare to other superheroes who gain their powers through mutations or accidents, Danny Rand fought to get his own, the Iron Fist. While he is training in the city of K'un Lun, Rand had the honor to fight Shou-Lao the Undying. Shou-Lao is an immortal dragon who grants the powers of the Iron Fist to any fighter who is able to beat her.
Meanwhile, some fans have urged Marvel to select an Asian actor to play Danny Rand, even though the character is white in the comics. However, others argued that casting an Asian actor simply because the hero's ability is martial arts would be a stereotypical move. Nonetheless, Finn Jonas is a good choice for the role.
Iron Fist will be the fourth Marvel superhero in Netflix, following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and the forthcoming Luke Cage. Former Dexter executive producer Scott Buck is the showrunner of the new series. Interestingly, Marvel and Netflix plans to unite all these heroes in a series called The Defenders.
