Formula 1 racing legend Michael Schumacher has had gone through so many battles on the racetrack in his life to end up as one of the greatest drivers of all time, but right now, he is perhaps battling his greatest battle ever after being involved in a skiing accident in 2013 which has more or less left him in a vegetative or coma-like state. While we are thankful that he has the best possible medical personnel looking after him, he is not immune to hoaxes that spread like wildfire online. With the Schumacher family establishing a media blackout on Schumacher’s medical condition, virtually nothing is known about his current state, so it is not surprising to hear of whispers that Michael is already up and able to walk in due time.
Such rumors have raised the ire of Michael’s wife, Corrina Schumacher, when she came across this alleged report from a German publication , no less, Bunte. According to Bunte, Michael has already recovered from his ordeal and could end up walking sooner rather than later. This is one of many false reports that have already gained traction in the media, and no doubt it has forced Corrina’s hand to speak up concerning such unsubstantiated rumors. Don’t you think that if that were to be the case, Corrina would be one of the first people to share such a joyful piece of news?
Corrina's manager Sabine Kehm and their lawyer Felix Damm have dutifully done what is expected of them -- by filing charges against the magazine for the spread of such a false report. Kehm asserted, "Unfortunately, we are forced by a recent press report to clarify that the assertion that Michael could move again is not true. Such speculation is irresponsible, because given the seriousness of his injuries, his privacy is very important for Michael."
Demm has also confirmed that Michael continues to remain confined to the bed. As Corrina maintained that Michael remains alive, she continues to emphasize the fact that there is no walking happening anytime soon in Michael’s case, and anything remotely suggesting that Michael is walking are hogwash. Not only that, Corrina slammed the false reports concerning Michael's death, citing that those lies were not only unfair to him, but the whole family as well.
However, there were reports going around that Michael’s health is on the decline. Corrina has not confirmed and neither denied such reports, so the reality of it is -- the world at large does not know how Michael is doing in his rehabilitation process, while his family, inner circle and caretakers are the only ones who really know of what is going on.
As Michael continues to receive treatment in his home in Geneva, Switzerland, aided by a private group of medical professionals, let us continue to keep Michael and his family in our prayers, that they will find the strength to carry on in the face of adversity and emerge stronger from the experience.
Michael’s son, Mick Schumacher, intends to make his father proud by making his move to Formula 3 next year. Certainly the need for speed runs in the family’s blood!
