Microsoft Surface RT Tablets (34GB and 64GB) are Both Discounted by $150 Now

Microsoft Corp. has confirmed $150 price cut of its Surface RT 32GB and 64GB tablet devices by selling them on Microsoft store website at the newly discounted rate.

The cut brings the price of the Surface RT with 32 gigabytes of memory to $349 without a cover, which also acts as a keyboard. With the cover, the device would cost $499. For the Surface RT 64GB device, the discounted rate is $449 without the touch keyboard and $549 including the cover.

Earlier today, Microsoft sent out an email with the special sale offer for the two models of Surface RT that runs on Windows RT. The screen size for the tablet measures 10.1 inches diagonally.

Meanwhile, the prices for Surface Pro devices remain unchanged at $899 for its 64GB tablet.

According to marketing research firm IDC, Microsoft shipped about 900,000 tablets in the first quarter of 2013, which includes both the Surface RT, which runs on Windows RT that uses apps, and Surface Pro, which runs on the full Windows 8.

Of the 49.2 million tablets shipped worldwide, Microsoft’s market share is only 1.8 percent. Apple remained as first with 39.6 percent and was followed by Samsung Electronics Co., AsusTek Computer Inc., and Amazon.com Inc. Microsoft displaced Barnes & Noble Inc., which makes the Nook, as No. 5.
