The second game in the three-game series pitting the New York Yankees against the Boston Red Sox saw the debut of pitcher Luis Severino. With the decision to allow him as a starting pitcher during the New York team's first game in the big league, it looks like Severino won the hearts of many as even Red Sox manager John Farrell sees his potential. However, Severino's debut was marred by the entrance of yet another rookie - this time from the Red Sox in the form of Steven Wright. The Wednesday game of the Yankees and the Red Sox held at the Yankee Stadium saw the latter win with a final score of 2 - 1.

Early on in the game, Wright's knuckleballs already appeared fatal to the future of the Yankees in the succeeding minutes as the 31-year-old delivered knucklers that appeared to be everywhere at the same time and challenging even the experienced hitters of the New York team. Although Wright has been in the game for quite some time now, the second game with the Yankees marked his debut in the big league. With his recent performance, however, it looks like the Wednesday night match will not be his first.

Singing praises of the player's renewed skill, Farrell said that Wright gave out an "outstanding" performance - one that may be his best thus far, according to ESPN. He said, "He was good his last time out but given this lineup, this ballpark, the short porch in right, he was outstanding from start to finish."

Meanwhile, Severino proved to be worth the spectacle generated by his inclusion in the Yankees roster. Calling the player a "good-looking pitcher," Red Sox manager Farrell predicted that the Yankees rookie will be delighting fans "a lot in in the years to come." Basing from his latest performance, it looks like Severino is truly a valuable player as he managed to stand his ground against Red Sox veteran David Ortiz.

With Michael Pineda out due to a forearm injury, it looks like Severino's promising debut raised the hopes of the Yankees. Apart from the concern on Pineda's status, the Yankees also has Tommy John and Ivan Nova's recent return from injuries to deal with - a concern that requires quite a lot of time and effort from the team and the players involved. Given the situation of the Yankees' roster, it is imperative that Severino further steps up his game, according to Bleacher Report.

The third game between the Yankees and the Red Sox is scheduled at 7 pm on Thursday night, August 6. As with the previous matches, Game 3 will be held in the Yankees Stadium in Bronx, New York.
