With the latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system being released, first to Google’s very own collection of smartphones and mobile devices, as well as with the LG V20 arriving with it right out of the box, what about Motorola smartphone owners? They are not forgotten for sure. In fact, the Motorola devices which are touted to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update do include the likes of the Moto G Play (4th Gen), Moto G (4th Gen), Moto G Plus (4th Gen), Moto X Force, Moto X Play, Moto X Style, Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen), Nexus 6 (as mentioned earlier), Moto Z, Moto Z Play, Moto Z Play Droid, Moto Z Droid, Moto Z Force Droid, Droid Maxx 2, and the Droid Turbo 2.
Phew! That is certainly quite a mouthful to remember, don’t you think so? It looks like some of the newer Motorola smartphones such as the Moto G3 variant as well as the Moto E3 will not be on the receiving end of the Android 7.0 Nougat update, which does raise some eyebrows. Some have speculated that this could boil down to Motorola has not agreed to provide the Nougat update for the mentioned handsets.
So far, we do know that the trial version of Android 7.0 Nougat has been launched, which can be installed on the Moto G3 by making use of the Android 7.0 Nougat APK file. During testing, however, several issues have cropped up. It is said that the trial version worked perfectly fine on the Moto G 2015 at first, although several features failed to stand up and be counted upon when the situation mattered. This meant an unstable build for select handsets, including the Moto G3, so do try it out at your own risk. Of course, if you have the intestinal fortitude for such a “digital adventure”, then you can always make a backup of all your important data less they be wiped out in one fell swoop.
Why take that kind of risk when you can easily make use of a newer Motorola device that has been confirmed to pick up the Android 7.0 Nougat update? Of course, there is always the other route that might not happen at all -- waiting for Motorola to work things out for the Moto G3, although we would not hold our breaths for that.
On the other hand, it could be because that the Moto G (2015) and Moto E3 Power (2016) which are some of the newer offerings from Motorola might actually decide to skip the Android 7.0 Nougat update, and wait for an Android 7.1 Nougat update instead. Do take this bit of speculation with a pinch of salt as nothing has been confirmed just yet, but it is very possible.
With your Motorola device gaining the Android 7.0 Nougat update, you should be able to enjoy features such as Direct reply Notification, Multi window, Bundled notification, Night mode, improved battery saving capability, the Doze feature that works on the lock screen itself, and support for Unicode 9 emoji, among others.
