More NBA trade rumors start to heat up, and we begin to hear news of disgruntled players who feel that they deserve to be surrounded by better teammates. This can be a particularly touchy subject, and loyalty is a currency that is not exactly in vogue these days -- or perhaps, team loyalty isn’t. With the New Orleans Pelicans not getting their season off in the right direction with a 0-6 record, never mind the fact that the players have all put in their shift and boasting of the mercurial powers of superstar forward Anthony Davis, there are rumblings of uncertainty and disgruntlement. Word on the street has it that Davis does not see a future for himself with the New Orleans Pelicans and would like to make a move away as soon as possible.
This is but human nature -- if you happen to be a whole lot more skilful or talented than the rest of your teammates and have the burden of carrying the team through impossible situations, and somehow feel that you are the only one pulling your weight around, it can get rather disheartening, and fast. Apparently, Anthony Davis has begun to be more and more frustrated that the Pelicans are simply not winning games that they should, and would prefer to join an outfit that has winning ways.
Of course, if Anthony Davis were to leave the New Orleans Pelicans, what are some of his options? The New York Knicks do seem to be a valid proposition, since we have New York Knicks power forward Kristaps Porzingis being benched after apparently losing the confidence of head coach Jeff Hornacek. All players would love to have some game time -- as much as possible, and when one is benched, it shows the signal that he is not good enough to make it to the first team. Sportsrageous thinks that this has the potential makings of seeing the New York Knicks and the New Orleans Pelicans come to an understanding to trade Anthony Davis and Kristaps Porzingis, sending them in opposite directions.
Of course, the rumor mill does not stop there. We would do well not to discount the fact that Porzingis as well as point guard Derrick Rose could be heading the exit door of the New York Knicks to the Pelicans, in exchange for “just” Anthony Davis. As for the other permutation, we might see Davis and shooting guard Lance Stephenson pack their bags for the New York Knicks, while the opposite direction will see the likes of Porzingis, power forward/center Kyle O’Quinn, small forward Lance Thomas, center Willy Hernangomez, shooting guard Justin Holiday, as well as a trio of future first-round draft choices, make the cut. The latter sounds more like wishful thinking than anything else though.
After all, the first scenario described above will definitely fall well within the jurisdiction of the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), whereas the other is outrageously not. We fans will simply have to wait and see what happens at the end of the day, and hopefully, if anyone moves, they too will be happy with the new team.
