There comes a time in a man’s life when he needs to move on from wherever he is stationed in life. This happens especially when he is tired of where he is in life, and would like to search for a different pasture. In the latest round of NBA trade rumors, we have Mo Williams from the Cleveland Cavaliers being put up for sale, at least according to sources that informed ESPN.com’s Brian Windhorst.
This bit of rumor does make it look as though the veteran guard of the Cleveland Cavaliers might be packing his bags and making a move to play for a different team after he missed out on team preparations for the 2016-17 season due to an injury. Owed slightly less than $2.2 million before hitting free agency, it might not be the fondest of farewells for Mo Williams.
Mo Williams has played a pretty crucial role in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ run to clinching their very first title in its history. During that historic run, Williams made 41 appearances across the games, where he managed to average 8.2 points and 2.4 rebounds per game as a third option off the bench, right behind Kyrie Irving and Matthew Dellavedova. Not only that, Williams also made appearances in 13 games during the post season period. Out of the 13 games, half a dozen of them were in the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.
Windhorst did mention that the 33-year-old Mo Williams sent "mixed signals" as to whether he might hang up his game shoes for good, although Williams did make mention slightly more than a month ago -- on September 21st to be exact, that he would be hitting the courts for at least one more season.
Mo Williams did not report to training camp that kicked off at the end of last month, especially since he did have surgery on his injured knee on October 12, and is currently recovering from the surgery. That knee of his proved to be an obstacle in the previous season, and he was not too happy with the Cavaliers. It seems that the Cleveland Cavaliers were surprised at Williams' training camp absence, and there was no communication at all from his side concerning his contract in the entire offseason.
Should Mo Williams make a break from the Cleveland Cavaliers, this would not leave the team high and dry however. There are a few options out there, although a trade would be the most logical, and perhaps easiest thing to do. If the Cavaliers decide to waive Williams, then Williams can walk away with his entire salary, not to mention requiring his employers to pay the full amount of tax -- and that figure could end up as high as $32 million. Alternatively, Williams could be suspended by the Cavaliers without any pay, and that would leave the team sheet short of one player -- which is not the brightest of ideas since there is a lack in depth at the moment.
In other words, it would be best for Williams and the Cavaliers to part ways. Let us see how things pan out in due time.
