The San Francisco 49ers have been looking for ways to boost its football squad. Prior to the beginning of the NFL regular season, speculations were rife on the potential of Australian rugby star Jarryd Hayne in terms of providing his unique skill set to the San Francisco 49ers. The fanfare over the Aussie NFL star had been incredibly intense that the support of the followers of Jarryd Hayne sometimes even surpass those given by the cheerers of the San Francisco 49ers.
However, it appears that the Australian football star failed to impress the NFL as much as he astounded the rugby community in his homeland. Over the weekend, Jarryd Hayne's contract was waived by the San Francisco 49ers. While 31 other teams in the NFL to have potentially recruited he punter, not one came forward to claim him. Hence, Jarryd Hayne is now back in the folds of the San Francisco 49ers. While the NFL star left the team as a member of the 53-man roster, reports surfaced that Jarryd Hayne had been demoted and placed in the practice squad this time around - a piece of information confirmed by the former NRL star himself via social media.
The departure of Jarryd Hayne from the active roster paved the way for Kendall Gaskins. The running back was promoted to the 53-man roster from the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad. Kendall Gaskins has been with the NFL team since September 2014 as part of the football squad's practice squad. He was later on released a year after but was eventually re-signed by the NFL team the following day.
The move to place Jarryd Hayne to the practice squad is not the only change in the San Francisco 49ers. Sources disclosed that Colin Kaepernick will no longer be the starting quarterback in the next NFL match of the football squad. An unnamed insider revealed to the Bay Sports Area Guy that the San Francisco 49ers have decided to bench Colin Kaepernick and activate Blaine Gabbert - a change earlier reported following the news that the NFL team is "evaluating" its current roster.
"Two 49ers players texted me and said after this game that it is time for Colin Kaepernick to be benched. This game lost to the Rams was the tipping point in a series of events that have been building and building and building to this point," disclosed Jason Cole via Bleacher Report. The sports insider added, "What these players say is they don't want Kaepernick's to be out of the plans for the 49ers. But simply put they think he needs time on the bench to clear his head, get himself straight so he understands what the offense is trying to do and what he can do to make it work."
