NFL Rumors: Chicago Bears Considering Michael Vick To Replace Jay Cutler and Brian Hoyer?

2016 is starting out to be a pretty rough year for the Chicago Bears given their current record and quarterback situation. If the team continues to perform poorly within the next few weeks, the Chicago organization could look to bringing in Michael Vick as a temporary starting quarterback.

The Bears are certainly having a bad season now that they have four loses and one win under their belt. The fact that Jay Cutler is still injured isn't helping the team's cause.

Cutler has been absent from the field for three games now following the thumb injury that he suffered during the Week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Although his injury may seem like a minor one, a medical expert noted that this condition, especially on a quarterback, can turn into a serious one.

"You do not want this injury," John Fernandez of the Rush University Medical Center said. "For one, it puts you out. Two, it's very unpredictable in terms of how it's going to recover."

"Virtually any other position on the team, you can function very well with this kind of injury, including a wide receiver or a tight end," he added. "But the ulnar collateral ligament is critical for the quarterback."

In other words, Cutler's injury can seriously affect how he throws his passes. And with him gone, the Bears had no other choice but to turn to his back up Brian Hoyer.

Although the Bears still lost a couple of games under Hoyer's leadership, he was the starting quarterback when they were able to snatch their first victory at Week 4 against the Detroit Lions.

Still though, it seems Hoyer is still not enough to drive the Bears out of the rut. What they need is a veteran athlete who has the skills to read plays and versatile enough to adapt his moves based on the current situation on the field.

One likely option is Vick, the current free agent who used to be the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets. Although Vick is older than both Cutler and Hoyer, he still has the athleticism and experience to win a few games for the Bears.

Given Cutler's current health condition, Vick could be the effective solution that Chicago is looking for.
