NFL Rumors: Dallas Cowboys Still Aim to Beat Carolina Panthers; Tony Romo Hopes to Face Off Against Cam Newton

The Dallas Cowboys had a very brief affair with the possibility of coming home as Super Bowl champions. Before the start of the regular NFL season, Tony Romo, Greg Hardy, Dez Bryant and the rest of Jerry Jones' acquisitions had high hopes of becoming the top team this year. In fact, not even the departure of DeMarco Murray from the football squad deterred their determination to eye the grand prize this season. It appears, however, that their dream had come crashing down on them way before the playoffs even started.

The most devastating loss to the Dallas Cowboys is the injury of prized quarterback Romo. The NFL star was first sidelined in Week 2 of the football season. His absence in the Dallas Cowboys roster saw the team lose game after game. Romo then managed to return in time to help Hardy and their teammates face the undefeated Carolina Panthers. Unfortunately, his comeback did not translate into anything more than a minor improvement for the Dallas Cowboys. Hence, the Cam Newton squad finished off the match with an unblemished record.

Before his decision to join his team to face the Carolina Panthers, Romo admitted that he was aware of the risks he would be taking. Despite the possible consequences, the quarterback braved through his injury and attempted to break Newton's winning streak. His plan backfired though as Romo was pulled out from the match with a severed clavicle injury and a couple more health concerns. Medical experts believe that the Dallas Cowboys quarterback might be out for the season. However, the NFL team's owner remains reluctant to wave the white flag just yet.

"The point is that we are well aware of how structurally, I think, sound that he is," shared Jones in an interview with Dallas Cowboys correspondent Rob Phillips. He added, "If you ask people that would look at his build, look at his ability to be resourceful on how he takes hits, dodges, he's good at it. Unfortunately, we've had these plays back to back here that broke that clavicle."

Jones also noted that Romo could overcome the injuries as he would not be one those athletes he simply succumbs to the pain. The Dallas Cowboys owner then went on to express confidence that the quarterback's resilience is a major factor in his performance in the future. Jones said, "At this point in his career he has a bank on how to win football games intellectually. It's a tremendous asset."

The Dallas Cowboys owner echoed the same sentiment when asked about Romo in an interview with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.

"This is not a damn debate, guys," Romo said via ESPN. He then went on to state, "This is not a debate we're having here. Do you know that I don't know if he's got four or five years? You asked me my opinion, and I can give you all the reasons why: the back or I can give you clavicle, or I can give you any other type of injuries that are there. But you're asking me what I think, and I think we've got outstanding quarterbacking ahead of us for the next four or five years. That's not a downer. Will we be looking to develop and get talent behind Romo? Absolutely."

In the absence of Romo this season, Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback Matt Cassel took over his post.
