It's been a while since the Pokémon Go became a worldwide hit. At present, the excitement has died down a bit. But game developer Niantic Inc. has been updating their app to sustain the interest of people in the game. Their new strategy is adding a new species to the Pokémon Go family.

Niantic has officially announced that Ditto is now part of the popular game. If you are a long time Pokémon fan, you might already know what does Ditto actually do. The newest addition to the game's Pokémon lineup will definitely pose a challenge. In fact, Ditto will probably bring back user engagement. What's great about Ditto is the fact that it is a master of disguise.

Ditto is able to transform itself into another Pokémon since it's basically a free-form blob. You won't exactly catch Ditto. For all you know, he might be disguising as a Pidgey or Rattata. A trainer may not even be aware that he/she has actually caught a Ditto. Eventually, it will reveal its real identity.

It should be noted that back on Tuesday, The Silph Road had discovered that Ditto's signature Transform move had been activated. This is after the app's recent update over the weekend. Though Niantic just announced it, there have already been reports of Ditto sightings before. According to Mashable, people were sharing it on Twitter and Reddit. Apparently, they shared that an "Oh?" message pops up after a random Pokémon has been concealed in their ball. Players will then see a purple screen before the Pokémon finally turns into Ditto.

Ditto's power is a threat to other Pokémon. It has a clear unfair advantage. For instance, it can be a prize possession to have Ditto battling at the gym. Ditto will copy the first Pokémon it sees. That include not only the appearance but also the type and moves of that Pokémon. Furthermore, its state will last until the end of the Gym battles. You can only imagine when two Dittos try to transform into each other.

Pokémon Go has broken a number of records for a mobile game. Forbes previously reported that its usage peaked on July 15. By Sept.8, it has become the fastest mobile game to reach over $500 million in revenue, according to TechCrunch. Though by mid-September, the game had lost 79 percent of its players. When the game had launched a Halloween Event in October, Pokémon Go's revenue went up to 133 percent, according to the Sensor Tower.
