Los Angeles, CA — As fierce wildfires rage across Southern California, actor Stelio Savante, known for his roles in Pursuit of Freedom, Infidel, Nefarious, and the upcoming film Between Borders (releasing January 26), has issued an urgent call to prayer. Speaking from his Los Angeles home on Thursday, Savante described the dire conditions as the flames crept closer to his neighborhood, with the nearest blaze—the Palisades fire—just six miles away.
“The greatest thing I could ask for is a call to prayer because we cannot lean on man,” Savante said. His words came as Los Angeles faced at least five concurrent wildfires, stretching emergency resources thin. “It’s been devastating. I’ve had friends who’ve lost homes they built and where their children grew up. The lack of firefighters is staggering, and the water shortage is staggering. Winds are hitting up to 100 miles an hour.”
Despite the encroaching danger, Savante remained focused on faith. “We’re not out of the woods. In fact, overnight, the fire has been creeping closer to us. But we’re not special—tens of millions of people are dealing with this,” he said, highlighting the widespread impact. “We’re just praying that there will be some respite and that God will provide an opportunity for miracles and testimony because it’s been rough.”
Wildfires are not uncommon in Southern California, but this year’s blazes have been fueled by dry conditions and intense winds, creating a deadly combination. “Earlier this week, we knew major windstorms were coming,” Savante explained. “Combine that with dry conditions, and you get the recipe for disaster we’re seeing now.”
Tracking the fire’s progression through the Watch Duty app, Savante reported that his area is currently under a red flag advisory—the final step before evacuation orders. “The fire is creeping up from the west,” he noted. “If you go further west from here, you hit Topanga Canyon, which runs down to the ocean by Palisades, Malibu, and the Pacific Coast Highway.”
Savante compared the current crisis to the uncertainty and fear experienced during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, he remains hopeful for a spiritual awakening amid the chaos. “God brought so much revival during COVID. I’m praying that happens here—that people who may not have been open to the gospel will soften their hearts. Weakness and vulnerability have a way of doing that.”
Describing the view from his home, Savante painted a grim picture. “At night, you can see the fire,” he shared. “During the day, it’s just thick smoke and smog. Embers are floating around because of the wind, and the air quality has been terrible this morning.” Though his immediate area hasn’t suffered the worst damage, he emphasized the devastation faced by those closer to the fire’s origin. “Palisades looks like scorched earth—like something out of a film.”
As the fires continue to threaten homes and lives, Savante’s plea for prayer resonates deeply. He urges believers everywhere to intercede for protection, relief, and opportunities to bear witness to God’s faithfulness.
“Pray that we’ll see miracles and testimony come out of this,” he said.
