Hits 105, a radio station out of Texarkana, Texas announced that, due to Madonna's recent confession of contemplating "a lot" about blowing up the White House, it will no longer be playing her music. This decision, Manager Thomas Terry clarifies, is one of patriotic---not partisan---resolve.
"Banning all Madonna songs at HITS 105 is not a matter of politics, it's a matter of patriotism," Terry told Billboard, "It just feels wrong to us to be playing Madonna songs and paying her royalties when the artist has shown un-American sentiments. If all stations playing Madonna took their lead from us, that would send a powerful economic message to Madonna."
In the midst of all the violent rioting accomplished by the Left and the too-satisfied complacency of the right, it is refreshing to hear that some are returning to the grassroots, but extremely powerful, action of boycotting and banning. It was the initial course taken by our forefathers as well as outstanding figures like Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks. For them, it was tea and buses; for us at this time, it is potentially music. Mr. Terry is rallying other stations to follow suit with his conviction and send a "powerful economic message to Madonna." Such certainly shows a rare form of elevating the conscience above popularity; in addition, it is the private business repossessing what is rightly its: freedom.
