Most have criticized Warner Brothers for essentially attempting to jumpstart a connected universe full of superheroes similar to Marvel, but with WB's own DC heroes. Since Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice did not really fare well with critics and audiences, it has had the studio hoping that Suicide Squad will be a hit, and the company can carry on this multi-million dollar developed a plan for DC Universe movies. One of them on the agenda is The Flash, but is not related to the CW show of the same name (and character), Flash is to be introduced for the Justice League movies, and he plans are underway for his solo film.
Forbes has announced that Rick Famuyiwa, will be helming the solo Flash film. Famuyiwa is most famous for films about race with The Wood and Dope. Dope is considered one of the best films of last year and has a great story dealing with a "nerd" living in the inner city.
The Flash was originally going to be directed by Seth Grahame-Smith, but he dropped out. It is believed that the film will be using a script based on a treatment from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the directors of The LEGO Movie.
The film will star Ezra Miller, who has already appeared as The Flash in the Batman V. Superman film. Not only was he in the scene where Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) is viewing footage of superheroes caught on film, but the Flash also appears in an odd scene in a dream sequence.
If you have seen the film, then you know the scene, as Batman is imagining or dreaming the world where Superman is in power and is clearly abusing it. The scene ends with a man in red warning Batman of "you were right about Superman all along", and that man is The Flash.
These scenes from Batman V Superman were clear set-ups to sequels, and with the case of The Flash, perhaps there will be a scene in the Flash solo film where Flash runs so fast that he goes back in time. There have been talks of having Ray Fisher, the actor who plays Cyborg (another member of the Justice League), also appear in The Flash film. By the way, Cyborg will have his own film later on as well.
As for what else will be in The Flash film, the character has actually been done before back on an early 90's TV show as well as the CW show. It always begins the same with Barry Allen getting zapped by a bolt of lightning that has the result of his Speed Force powers, making him the fastest man alive. The Flash has a well-developed backstory from the comics that includes a long list of Rogues that include Captain Cold, Gorilla Grodd, Reverse-Flash, and so on. There is no word on whether or not "the villain" has been chosen yet.
We will have to wait about two years to find out, as The Flash isn't slated to hit theaters until March 16, 2018.
