The Legend of Zelda Wii U Game Release Date; Delayed Until the Nintendo NX?

The biggest mistake that Nintendo made with the Wii U was not having a Legend of Zelda game at the ready for the launch of the Wii U.  One of the reasons that the original Wii was so popular was not only the more active Wii Sports with user-friendly Wiimotes, but The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, was released recently after it.  Nintendo fans could play what is arguably one of Nintendo's biggest franchises on the Wii, and even use their Wiimote to swing Link's sword.  The problem is the constant delay of the long-anticipated The Legend of Zelda Wii U game, and it looks like it might be delayed until the next Nintendo console, the Nintendo NX.

Back when Twilight Princess was released, it was incredibly popular, taking the fantasy franchise to a whole new level.  Nintendo chose to release the next in the series, Skyward Sword, to the Wii, a few years later.  If the company had waited on that game and chose to bring it only to the Wii U, there is no doubt that Nintendo would not be in the dire straits that it is in now.

When the Wii U came out, the company was quite honest in telling its fans that there would not be another Legend of Zelda game until 2015.  The sad part was that there was a delay; complete with a video from producer Eiji Aounuma announcing that he could not make the deadline of 2015, according to The Geek Church.  So far, the newest Legend of Zelda game doesn't even have a name yet, but there has been some gameplay shown of its lovely open-world setting, which leaves many Zelda fans really pining for it.

The short-term solution that Nintendo implemented to appease its fans after the release of the Wii U was to release Windwaker, a Zelda game originally for the GameCube to the Wii U.  It was strictly a port, with not a lot of improvements other than the use of the Wii U's touchscreen controller.  The company plans to release Twilight Princess for the Wii U on March 4, 2016, according to Movie Pilot

Forbes states that another Wii U only Zelda Game for Nintendo would be a Mistake, and this has a lot to do with the successor of the Wii U, the NX.  Most believe that the NX will be released in the holiday season of 2016, as 2017 would be too late.  Nintendo has its Super Smash Brothers and Mario franchises that it can stay afloat in, but it is difficult to compete with what Sony and Microsoft are doing on their respective consoles of PS4 and Xbox One.

There has been a report on Nintendo Everything that a big announcement is scheduled for Monday, December 14, 2015.  Could this be the Nintendo NX?  If so, then perhaps the NX will be seen at E3 2015, the big gaming convention that takes place in Los Angeles every summer, in order to have a holiday release by 2016.
