After many weeks of speculations and doubts, it is revealed that Michael Bay will return in the fifth installment of Transformers. The director also confirmed that they will shoot the scenes in Chicago. Now, here's the latest news about Transformers 5's release date, cast, and plot rumors.

Few months ago, Michael Bay said that he is reluctant to direct the next Transformers movie. The directed cited that he wants to make a movie that is not in the realm of sci-fi this time. Screen Rant published that Bay first announced that he does not want to direct another Transformers movie, because he finds the Dark of the Moon "messy".

However, a report from the Rolling Stone confirmed that Bay would return in the Transformers franchise. It was reported that part of the reason why he has returned is because he still enjoy directing the movie. He also revealed that Transformers 5 would be his last for the series, according to an article from Collider.

The Transformers movie franchise planned to release more installments until 2025, according to a separate article from Screen Rant. The producers said they would continue the series with or without Bay.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that Megan Fox will return in the new Transformers movie. It was previous reported that Fox was fired by Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay because of her offensive remarks to Bay. Although details for 'Transformers 5' may be scarce as of the present, online reports said Fox might appear in the new movie. Films analysts said the aging sci-fi may need a familiar face to attract more audiences, and putting Fox back may be the key.

The fourth movie in the franchise, Transformers: Age of Extinction, earned a record-breaking reception in China, where the film grossed more than $300 million, a new high-water mark for the world's second-largest movie market. The total sales of the movie reached $763.8 million internationally, as per reports from Variety.

Paramount announced that they are assembling a group of writers to build new "Transformers universe" that would include spinoffs and new installments in the franchise. Akiva Goldsman ("I am Legend") leads the team together with Matt Holloway ("Iron Man") and Ken Nolan ("Black Hawk Down") to write the scripts.

The fifth installment of Transformers scheduled for release in 2017.
