This year Easter Sunday falls on March 27, 2015. It is a time for the celebration of Jesus Christ's resurrection and time think about the new life in Heaven with Him. The resurrection of Christ proves his victory over sin and death.
The Easter season starts on Ash Wednesday. Lent lasts 40 days - if the six Sundays between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday are not included. It is a time when Christians fast or give up a particular food or vice. The fasting period is a way to remember Jesus Christ's suffering in the wilderness, where he fasted for 40 days.
The Easter week, also known as Holy Week, marks the day that Christians reflect on Christ's humility and crucifixion. This year Good Friday takes place on March 2.
Easter Eggs
One of the famous celebrations during Easter Sunday is the Easter Egg Hunt. What does that have to do with the celebration? The eggs signify new life, and it is used a symbol of Jesus' resurrection on Easter Sunday. The eggs can also represent spring and celebration after the harshness of winter. Also, the presence of chicks, lambs and other cute animals in the occasion reminds people about the continuation of life.
Easter Bible Verses
Easter Bible verses help us to meditate on the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus. The passages also help us to focus on the resurrection of Christ and its gift of an eternal home in Heaven.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe in this?" John 11:25-26
"I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life" 1 John 5:13
"Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses" Acts 2:29-32
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." 1 Peter 1:3-5
