Chevy has a lot on the line with the future of their company, and one of the biggest cars they will have is the 2016 Camaro. Developed under the GM Alpha platform, this 6th Generation of Camaro is set to compete with Ford's 6th era Mustang that was showcased in 2013. Daily Autos Updates states that "every subtle element and board of the new Camaro had been overhauled, despite the fact that [it is] not radically". This year's model is smaller with a shorter wheelbase and just one inch short in its stature. The 2016 Camaro has also lost a little weight as the design is about 200 pounds lighter, and the chassis will have independent suspension all around.
There are other subtle changes made such as the new headlights with their LED design, as well as the cross section of the front grille. There are also two extra vents that hide flat DRLs, and there are some new taillights as well.
The interior also received a bit of a makeover as the driver has the choice between instrument board with chrome encompasses and gages, or a simple eight-inch configurable HD touchscreen. This touchscreen will show all kinds of data like route information and controlling the infotainment on board, and is an interface to the MyLink framework.
The Powertrain lineup can be found on the official Camaro website, and it features a 2.0 L Turbo with 275 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, capable of 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds. The 6.2 L V8 with 455 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque, which is the most powerful and capable of 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds with the automatic. As for the 3.6 L V6 with 325 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque, it is good for 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds.
Chevrolet's vision was to bring the 2016 Camaro to consumers as a price of about $25,000, and from what is heard of the actual price, the company stayed within that goal, for the most part. The full official pricing has been released, as Cars Direct reports that the 2016 Camaro 1LT equipped with 4-cylinder turbo and 6-speed manual will start at $25,700 (before $995 destination charge) opting for the 8-speed automatic adds $1,495 to the price. The Camaro 1LT V6 will start at $27,195, a $1,495 premium over the turbo, and upper-spec SS models will receive the largest price increases as the 2016 Camaro 1SS will start at $36,300.
As far as the actual release date, the on-sale dates vary by model. Chevy will reportedly first release coupe versions of the V6 and SS by mid-November 2015. The turbo and convertible variants will follow in early 2016, with the next-generation Camaro ZL1 and Z/28 expected to debut much later in 2016 as 2017 models.
