2016 Chevy Camaro Release Date, Price and Specs

By Mark Rollins

There is a lot to be expected of the Chevy Camaro 2016, as this 6th Generation of Camaro developed under the GM Alpha platform (the same platform as the Cadillac ATS) has a lot of modifications made to it so it is a little bit smaller, a little more faster, and a whole lot nimbler.  The Powertrain lineup looks very impressive as the car is not only going to have a lot more speed, but better performance overall.  This is what we know about the 2016 Chevy Camaro Release Date, Price, and Specs.

So what other changes will be in store for the 2016 model?  According to 2016 Cars Reviews, the wider grille and smaller lights will go, and the small grille and wider headlights will stay.  Overall, the car is going to be wider and lower than the previous generation, a modification made to increase the driver's experience behind the wheel.  The 2016 Camaro has also lost a little weight as the design is about 200 pounds lighter, and the chassis will have independent suspension all around.

As for the interior, the company considers it a Command Center.  It is also made to look like the preceding model, with chrome borders on the analog meters.  Buyers have the option of restoring them with an 8-inch configurable high definition monitor that displays some navigation as well as entertainment features.  There is also another 8-inch monitor made to sit in the middle of the dashboard, and it is an improved MyLink system.  The interior also has an LED ambient illumination system for the door panels, dash, and center console with 24 different colors in addition to some fade and changeover effects.

The Powertrain lineup can be found on the official Camaro website, and it features a 2.0 L Turbo with 275 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, capable of 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds.  The 6.2 L V8 with 455 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque, which is the most powerful and capable of 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds with the automatic.  As for the 3.6 L V6 with 325 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque, it is good for 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds.

The full official pricing has been released, as Cars Direct reports that the 2016 Camaro 1LT equipped with 4-cylinder turbo and 6-speed manual will start at $25,700 (before $995 destination charge) opting for the 8-speed automatic adds $1,495 to the price.  The Camaro 1LT V6 will start at $27,195, a $1,495 premium over the turbo, and upper-spec SS models will receive the largest price increases as the 2016 Camaro 1SS will start at $36,300.

As far as the actual release date, the on-sale dates vary by model.  Chevy will reportedly first release coupe versions of the V6 and SS by mid-November 2015.  The turbo and convertible variants will follow in early 2016, with the next-generation Camaro ZL1 and Z/28 expected to debut much later in 2016 as 2017 models.
