2016 NBA Finals: Cavs Forward Kevin Love In Concussion Protocol, Might Miss Out Game 3

It's clear that the Cleveland Cavaliers are having a tough time keeping up with the Golden State Warriors during the first few games of the finals but it seems the team will have to overcome another hurdle. Following the events of on Sunday, it seems power forward Kevin Love will not be able to join the rest of the Cavs in Game 3.

During the last minutes of the second quarter in Game 2, Love went for an offensive rebound. However, Warriors' Harrison Love also did the same thing and the two players collided, with love taking an elbow to the back of the head courtesy of his opponent, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Love immediately fell down in pain following the blow. He eventually got up and walked back to the bench on his own. However, despite the hit to his head, Love remained in the game and even managed to score a three-pointer thanks to the assist from J.R. Smith.

Initially, the Cavs and fans assumed that Love was fine. However, just to be on the safe side, Love was placed on concussion protocol. This is part of a policy enforced by the NBA to ensure the health and safety of players.

"Cavaliers forward Kevin Love experienced dizziness after returning to play at the start of the second half," a report from ABC stated. "He was taken to the locker room for further examination."

Keeping in line with this policy, Love will have to undergo various procedures that are designed to identify symptoms of a concussion. And, as noted by the NBA, the type of procedure or treatment method that Love will go through will vary from what other athletes experienced since the league considers the effects of concussions are unique depending on the person.

This means, however, that it is not yet clear how long the procedure will take place or if Love will be given the clearance to rejoin the Cavaliers once they face-off the Warriors on June 8 for Game 3. Also, depending on his situation, there's a chance that Love might miss the entire finals.

But, earlier this week, a spokesperson from the company confirmed that Love was allowed to travel back to Cleveland, ESPN reported.
