Sources say that the front office of the New York Knicks is having internal discussions regarding the possibility of acquiring Derrick Rose from the Chicago Bulls. Although this isn't confirmed yet, it's likely to happen especially since the Chicago franchise is open to releasing its point guard.

The rumors about the Knicks' discussions were first reported by ESPN. According to the sports news site, league sources noted that the Knicks are looking to boost its roster for the 2016-2017 season by signing in Rose.

The report, however, did not go into detail regarding how New York plans to do this. But, if the team will not go for a trade, then the Knicks could acquire Rose once the free agency market begins in July.

For some time now, there have been various reports regarding the relationship between Rose and the Bulls. Many of these seem to revolve around the former leaving the latter.

This probably didn't come as a surprise to basketball fans they are well aware of how Rose performance and playing time with Chicago have decreased through the past years. When he first joined the team, he seemed like the type of athlete who will go on to do great things and even lead the Bulls back to the championship lane once again.

However, due to a series of injuries, Rose began to miss games. In fact, he hasn't played a full season since 2011. This, along with his prone to injuries, are one of the reasons why Chicago is reportedly keen on trading away Rose or even losing him through the free agency market.

Of course, given his status with his current team, Rose shouldn't probably expect a very high offer from a team that's looking to get him. In other words, even if the rumors about the Knicks' desire to sign him are true, the team only probably views him as a back-up option just in case they run out of free agents to get next month.

Also, if they have cap space to burn, it would probably be wise for the Knicks to go after a more reliable player. After all, there are other high-profile athletes that are expected to become free agents in July such as Kevin Durant, DeMar DeRozan, Dwayne Wade, Nicolas Batum and Joakim Noah.
